Yeah not sure what's going on here, but I'd be hot if I were in their camp. Lochte in the US. Other 3 detained. Why? I'm not up on the legal system in Brazil, but while it's not unheard of, generally victims aren't detained in the US.

I realize there are questions of what may or may not have happened. Like you said, strange.

Australian swimmers banned from closing ceremony (hmmmm?)

Rio Olympics: Athletes welcomed with condoms, air conditioning

"The spartan bathrooms sport plastic shower curtains and a single oval mirror, but no drawers or cupboards to store the 450,000 condoms that will be distributed to athletes -- equivalent to 42 per person."

With a record number of condoms allocated and air-condtioners in every bedroom, Rio’s athletes village starts welcoming Olympians on Sunday.

That's a lot of condoms... "Yipes, Stripes, Beechnut Gum!"

The US women dropped the baton in a 4X100 heat this morning.

The runners were smart enough to pick up the baton, in order and finish the race. They filed a protest and it was upheld.

Problem is, you just can't add a lane. And you just can't kick someone else out.

I believe they came up with an outstanding solution.

The US team will run alone tonight, and if they beat the worst time, they will qualify.

However, the current worst time is a tie between Japan and Canada. If the US betters that time, and barring a drop they will, then those 2 teams will have a run off for the final spot.

If somehow the US ties their time, there will be a 3 way runoff.

I give 2 thumbs up to the IOC for working this out.

I stand corrected, they took the timing to .001 and now China stands alone. If the US betters 42.70, they are in and China is out. If not, China is in and the US is done.

Nothing wrong with adding a Lane 10. Penalty for dropping baton is having to avoid cameramen.

So, the US is in! It's not like the Canadians or Japanese are runners. Besides, why does Canada get their own Olympic team anyway? Why is the northernmost county in Wisconsin considered independent?

We don't know all of the facts at this time but it sounds like they were all drunk and that some or all of them vandalized the restroom (broken mirrors, urine on the floor, etc. )I think that Lochte is 25 years of age (not for sure about that). If so, he's no young kid.

2016 Rio Olympics, Rio Summer Olympics, Ryan Lochte, gas station, Article, 41500975

This isn't the first time Lochte has made news outside of the pool. In 2005, he was fined $110 and performed 22 hours of community service after being cited for public urination in Gainesville, Florida. Five years later, he pleaded no contest to a disorderly conduct charge filed by University of Florida police.
                      This sounds like a pattern.

Why did they drop the baton? What are their grounds for a protest?

                              That explains so much.

The divers must be, well, pissed, as it were.

During the 2nd and 3rd leg, the starting runner for Brazil ran on the inside of the lane bordering the American lane and her swinging arms made contact with the arms and torso of Alison Felix.

The contact was minimal, but it clearly threw her off balance, she subsequently tripped as well trying to catch herself (I might even buy that she was tripping before the contact, but that's just my observance) and then could never catch up with the next runner and she actually tried to toss the baton to her in a last ditch effort to pass it before the safe transfer zone ended.
