Not afraid or embarrassed to say it.....cried like a baby at Simone Manuel's reaction to winning the gold medal in the 100 free tonight.

Unabashed surprise and unbridled joy. A wonderful Olympic moment for her....and anyone watching.

That's my favorite moment of this olympics so far...
Marge: The plant called and said that if you don't come in tomorrow, don't bother coming in Monday.
      Homer: WOOHOO! Four day weekend.

Former Shocker distance runner Kellyn Taylor didn't pull any punches:

I watched that race and when the announcers said the WR was set in '93 under already suspicious circumstances by a Chinese runner, then it was obliterated by this Ethiopian runner by what.....another 15-20 seconds? You have to wonder if PEDs were involved. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt but it sure is hard.

Since Kellyn is an insider, routinely competing with and against these runners, I'm going to go with her take on it.

Not sure if that reaction was surpassed by Maya Dirardo or not in the 200 Back with her excitement and belting out the anthem, or not, but it's another great Olympic moment.

Combined with Aly and Simone in gymnastics last night, and the ladies have certainly been the story so far.

How come the US sucks at men's water polo?
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

PETA won't let our teams practice because the horses keep drowning.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

Got it, thanks! Yesterday I watched the match against some third world country, they embarrassed the US. I didn't even think to look at the horses!

They should switch to sea horses and play in a salt-water pool. That would resolve the issue.

I'm pretty sure this whole story line is full of sexism.

Or perhaps that only works one way.

On a more serious note, that was the most impressive T&F performance I recall seeing in recent memory.

                                Women's 5000 qualifying this morning.

American Abbey D'Agostino was in the back of the lead pack when the New Zealand runner ahead of her got her feet tangled and fell.

Abbey tried to miss but in stepping over, severely extended her knee to the side.

Still, she stopped to help the other runner to her feet, and then realized she was hurt as well. She tried to start running and winced in pain, tried again and collapsed.

And I mean fell hard in terrible pain and encouraged the other runner to go on without her.

SOMEHOW she managed to get to her feet and begin running again to finish.

Not, mind you, the rest of the lap (this happened on the backstretch) but the final 5+ laps.

Unreal heart and courage from the American.

In better news, her coach filed a protest and it was granted, sending her on to the finals.

In worse news, her coach intimated that while they are awaiting MRI results, he fears the injury is catastrophic and that she will not compete further.

                                Truly, the Olympic Spirit.
