Too bad about Zobrist. What he brings may be hard to replace.

He lobbied hard by putting the "Royal" into his daughter's name.

Zobrist wants a guaranteed 4-year deal, and to play 2nd base exclusively. Unfortunately, the Omar Infante contract made re-signing Zobrist virtually impossible without just releasing Infante and eating his salary for the next two years. That's something KC can't afford to do, now that they need a starting pitcher and at least one OF'er.

Yes, and that's a shame. Having Zobrist is like having 3 guys, a switch-hitting utility man is a real asset. It was great having him for a few months.

Infante makes a dead spot in the line-up and right now the only every-day big league outfielder under contract is Cain. Which probably means a project/rookie OF bogging down the lineup as well. The Royals need to pony-up for someone - may as well be Gordon.

I also think they balked in the Zobrist talks because Gordon is their top priority. I really hope they can get something done there. Gerardo Parra in the outfield for 4 years doesn't sound like a fun back-up plan.

They're saying Zobrist will get 4 years, $60 million, unfortunately that's just too much for KC to spend as mentioned with the Infante deal and also possibly Colon waiting in the wings. It was nice to have him and he fit right in but unfortunately there are teams out there with more $ to spend. I'll be disappointed if they don't keep Zobrist then also let Gordon get away.

Eh, it's something to post. I'm sure just about everyone expected him to be gone.

I'd love to see us lock up Gordon, BUT maybe not if it prevents us from giving Cain a long term deal when he's set to negotiate a new contract. Of course being able to keep a handful of these young studs would be ideal!

Cain is 29 and turns 30 on opening day. Hes under contract until 2018 along with Moose and Hosmer.

Spend the money on Gordon/Moose/Hosmer not Cain. Dont get me wrong Id love for him to finish out his career. But Im in no rush to sign him now plus he would be great trade fodder come 2017/2018

Alex has established himself as a sure-fire Royals Hall of Famer someday...regardless of what happens. If Alex signs on for another 4-5 years with the Royals, he could potentially put himself in position to get his number retired. That is something that probably no team can give him.

The Royals won it all because this kid gave good karma to the cause. The Royals future fan base is secure with this one.
