The Chiefs have so many problems on both sides of the ball that it's going to take 2-3 years to re-build this team to the point where they're competitive again. Off the top of my head, here are the starters the Chiefs need to overhaul. I'm not even going to attempt to address the back-ups. Obviously, they need a new QB. RB - Jamaal Charles will be 29 this December with two bad knees. WR - Jeremy Maclin is not a number 1 wideout. He was the number 2 guy when Desean Jackson was there and is still a number 2 guy now. We need a deep threat/game breaker type number 1 WR to accompany Jeremy. ILB Derrick Johnson is 32 and due to age and coming back from his Achilles injury, he's average at best now. OLB Tamba Hali, he'll be 32 on November 3rd, the dude is slow and old. CB - Smith and FS - Parker. In fact, other than Marcus Peters, overhaul the entire secondary and their backups, (I'll give a pass to Eric Berry, his body has been through a lot). The O-Line? Other than Donald Stephenson and Morse who has been a pleasant surprise, they need 3 new O-lineman.

They say if you can get one starter or two out of your draft class, you did well. If that's the case, the Chiefs are in deep crap.

The situation surrounding Alex Smith is getting ugly. It started with everyone including him blaming the bad offensive line.
Then Charles goes down. Smith appeared to have completely given up towards the end of the Chicago game and the first half of the Vikings game.. Even the announcers were trashing Smith's performance.
Was 29 year old Charles going down really his tipping point? Lots of problems in KC. These are the types of seasons cost guys careers, starting jobs and head coaching jobs.
If Smith can't get remotivated he is done in KC and will only be allowed to back-up wherever he goes. And is Andy Reid even willing to stick around to rebuild? He's not a young guy and doesn't seem to be handling the pressure near as well in KC as he did in Philadelphia.
