    Congratulations to American Pharoah!!

Twelfth triple crown winner in history. Interesting that Secretariat's triple crown in 1973 was the first in 25 years, then Seattle Slew and Affirmed went back-to-back in 1977-78, to make it 3 in 6 years. It took 37 years for it to happen again.

It was a weak Belmont field, but this horse was more than impressive winning in 3 different styles and etching his place in history.

We may or may not see him race again (probably not) given today's breeding market, but anyone that watched him today will likely remember it forever.

Even though American Pharoah had the sixth fastest Belmont time, he still would have lost to Secretariat by at least 16 lengths.

He's an amazing horse. Deserving of the Triple Crown.

Which, given that Secretariat won the Belmont by 31 lengths, still makes him an incredible horse. But you are right, Secretariat is in a class by himself.

Agree...Although I believe Seattle Slew is credited for being the only horse to go unbeaten in their career through the Belmont, Secretariat was the most dominate when the lights were shinning the brightest. The horse Sham might have won the triple crown in any other year, finished a close second in the first two triple crown races, but was just beaten down by the great Secretariat at the Belmont.

I wish Sham would have been able to race again. Didn't run his race in the Belmont and probably started the injury that ended his career way too early, in a day and age when horses would continue to race more often than not.

                Secretariat had Sham

Seattle Slew had Run Dusty Run

                Affirmed had Alydar

                American Pharoah had .............

This is a weak crop of 3yo imho. Maybe time will say something different.

We'll NEVER see an Affirmed-Alydar matchup again. Those 2 were unreal and true, great champion race horses.

American Pharoah this year is much like the yearly WSU basketball schedule...you can only play who is in front of you, or beside you as in horse racing. Outsiders want to judge WSU on its schedule, not on their true quality. AP is a quality horse.

And Secretariat is no Man O War. But that's almost like comparing Fred Van Vleet to Tyrone Shoelace given that Man O Wars greatest race is largely legend at this point, winning by over 100 lengths.

Back in the late 80's, I spent a month in the Middle East. There ain't no virgins left.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

When I first saw this topic I wondered why it wasn't in the politics forum.

You had me worried for a moment!
