I would conjecture the following:
1. The cap was really strong yesterday.
2. High cloud cover and location of warm front help keeped the atmosphere from getting to destabilize through the day and the cap was still pretty strong at peak heating.
3. therefore it took the upper level dynamics to break the cap, and once the upper level dynamics was over there wasn't enough instabilty even with the LLJ to keep it going and the cap ended up squishing it.

I just wanted some rain for the yard and landscaping. The drought-deluge cycle we've been on for the past several years is getting old. Sprinkler systems on city water can't keep up, unless you want a mortgage payment-sized water bill. This has got to be one of the driest springs we've had recently.
I would go look up our YTD rainfall at the Wichita NWS site, but I don't want another headache from trying to rummage through that mess. Any suggestions for weather sites that have archived info, but are easier to wade through than the NWS stuff?

Enter your zip code. Then check out the "Monthly" tab, for example.Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!

This is really the best site to see rainfall (rainfall reported at the NWS site is only true for that location). If you like it, join and become a reporting member. For example in the Sedgwick county the reported rainfall ranged from trace to 1.38 inches. Link:

If you grew up in the Wichita area in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s you probably listened to KFDI radio; especially during severe weather and breaking news (Pony Express News). Before modern radar maps and technologies, ‘The Ranch Hands’ were our ‘eye in the sky’ and we trusted them to keep us safe.
The KFDI radio sports editor was Ernie Tousley. He was also the WSU public address announcer during the 70’s and early 80’s (maybe even the 60’s?). I always thought he had a great voice and his player introductions always ‘rocked the house’; specifically his introductions of Ozell Jones and Antoine Carr. He went on to law school and the last I knew was an attorney with Ohara Ohara & Tousley in Wichita. I know he’s been mentioned on Shockernet in the past. Who knows, maybe he’s one of us?
I’m sure a lot of the following people have passed, however my memories of them remain strong. Their voices will always be 'etched' in my memory. Some of them have WSU connections.
KFDI AM 1070 – The Ranch Hands (see bios on the pdf below)
