Also, if she doesn't press charges, is it the state that presses charges? or does anyone at all? ...and if no one does, is his suspension from the NFL short-lived, or is he done forever?

I feel pretty certain the legal situation has already run it's course and he was given a sentence congruent with first time offenders.

This is an odd situation....I don't know why the video makes a difference. Any idiot KNEW he hit her, hell he admitted he did. I don't know why the video makes it worse. And while I ABHOR domestic violence....is it like 100 times worse than, say, what Ray Lewis did? Selling dope? I'm not saying that ALL of these incidents should or shouldn't warrant a life ban, but this seems like a reaction to public opinion...and that scares me a little.

What Rice did was totally wrong, period!!

That said, I also find interesting, primarily based on what his now wife said at the time of the incident and now, that any fines and/or suspensions to Ray Rice is also a penalty to Janay. Is not the NFL equally penalizing her even though she was the victim? Just throwing it out for discussion.

Yes and I'm pretty sure there's 100% agreement on this, or at least darned close to 100%.

True, but isn't that the case with every spouse? I mean what penalty anywhere, civil, criminal or otherwise, doesn't also affect the spouse, if there is one? The only interest the NFL has is Ray. She could have chosen not to marry him.

Playing devil's advocate, 1) "what penalty anywhere, civil, criminal or otherwise, doesn't also affect the spouse, if there is one?" : True, but the only "crime" (our words, not hers) was done to her, no one else. As far as the law is concerned, he got a slap on the hand. And you're right, the NFL's only interest is Ray (and their own) as their decision totally ignores her interest. She becomes the victim twice.

            2) I fully understand "abuse denial", but it would appear that not marrying him was not an option for her nor leaving him now that the NFL further dropped the hammer. I'm sure there are abuse victims that are simply glad to be out of the situation. They could also sue for divorce and probably get most everything the other spouse has. That option is most likely lost to Janay in that she married him after the incident. The fact that the NFL changed their ruling and took away those fat checks she would have shared in would hold no weight with the courts. The NFL basically kicked her in the teeth as they changed their ruling after they were married.

I wonder if Janay is indeed suffering from denial or if she's just fine with getting smacked around for a couple million dollars in spending cash.

I thought this, too. I know that it is a serious situation and all, but I made the joke to my wife that if someone asked me, "Would you allow yourself to get full-on punched by Megatron a few times a year for 1 million dollars each calendar year," I would gladly take that offer. Maybe that's the choice she decided to make. When you frame it that way, she's not crazy at all.

It's still a terrible thing, but I'm just trying to wrap my head around what seems to be happening here. She is defending him like he's misunderstood and a victim here, but I just watched him hit her Mike Tyson style. It's such a weird situation. I figure if she will forgive him, it's none of my business anymore.

Its definitely a wierd situation as the NFL interviewed her while he sat in the room.

I dont for one second believe that the NFL did not have access to that video any time before yesterday.

I do believe though if he had been given a stricter penalty from the go this really wouldnt be an issue. If he had been given the 6 games then no one really says anything. Yeah you'll have a few protestors but nothing like what they have had.

This was an L that Roger Goodell couldnt really just sit on. He was already demonized for the 2 game suspension. and he probably should have just held firm in that but dealing with the outcry that was coming simply wasnt worht it.

How dumb can a broad be if she goes on and marries the bum after he coldcocked her in the elevator.

So what was/is her real motivation (she claims love) for 'sticking by her man'? $ $$ $$$ $$$$ $$$$$ to $4 million.

Does he lose the entire $4 million upon being suspended?

It may be one or the other, but it may not be a simple as that.

I don't know, being a punching bag for money seems a little crazy to me and dangerous.

Maybe it's not so much a victim, but, that in her eyes, there is more to the story and she feels partially to blame. What I view that she can't defend away is how he treated her as a sack of potatoes. Had he picked her up, carried her out of the elevator, got help or tried to help her right then, I'd feel a little better about her decision.

Don't know about the money, but we probably won't know about the rest unless she leaves him quickly or he does it again. If he doesn't do it again and she stays is about the only way we'll get a "for sure" answer.

People stay in relationships after a domestic violence incident when the guy is a dirt poor coal miner in KY.

Where's the outrage that the NFL and the NBA employ people who are directly responsible for their best friends death?

If Ray Rice's wife is a transvestite and therefore he actually hit a man that just looks like a woman, would he still get a lifetime ban?
Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!

What if Ray Rice is really a lesbian that dresses and acts like a man? Does this suddenly become a cat fight? And what if Ray Rice is really a lesbian and his wife is really a man?

                            So many possibilities.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

If he only worked at the local grocery store or the manufacturing plant, would she still be with him? Or better yet, would she have ever married him?

Exactly! See? We don't know the facts! What if his transvestite lover has a fetish for being smacked like some have a fetish for being choked? What if his shemale partner had a black widow crawling on her and he was saving her life by trying to kill it?
