Well the Royals got the series win in NY thanks to the pitching staff. They only scored a total of 5 runs in the series and only 3 of those were in the 2 victories.
At some point I would think they would pay of the lack of offense. Not sure how big an impact the loss of Danny Duffy will be if his MRI results aren't good.

At some point, you may be correct. I'm not sure who you are comparing the Royals to or if you are just looking at the fact that they only scored 2 runs today and won. But almost every team has their warts just like the Royals. Minnesota has a great hitting team but their pitching depth both starting and in the pen sucks. The fact is that the Tigers have a couple of more warts than KC at this time (Could change but their pitching staff is going down right now). One can get bogged down too much in the weeds with statistics sometimes. The Royals have a top notch starting pitching staff and maybe even better pen. Their hitting is not as good but not the worst. Here are a couple of statistics that make some sense out of their success:
Currently the Royals are ranked out of 15 American League Teams:
- 9th in Runs scored but
- 4th with leaving RISP on base.
- 4th in Earned Run Average.

Congrats on the series win, Royals fans.
5 years ago who would've thought the Royals pitching staff would be winning them games. Got the job done this weekend against a team that just isn't that good. We can't score for ****.
The Royals are gonna be a playoff team, but if they wanna advance past the Divisional Series, they better start figuring out how to score or they'll be 4 and out.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

According to statistics for the entire year, there is a gap between the LA Angels, Oakland A's and the rest of the league. But since the All Star game, Oakland has trended down significantly offensively. Baltimore is running away in the East, but the Yankees are still in second place. The Royals are also at the very top in Gold Gloves in the starting lineup and stolen bases but the importance of defense is more difficult to quantify. Hopefully, Duffy and Holland can come back this year or that could be a significant factor.

If I'm not mistaken, all three runs scored in the two victories over NY were unearned. That just isn't going to work when playing teams with an offense. The pitching has been great, but the offense hasn't even been mediocre. Maybe it's from decades of being a KC fan, but if we get swept by the Tigers in this series I don't feel good about holding off them, Oakland and Seattle for a playoff spot, no matter who we're playing next or what the playoff percentage is.

As I said a few days ago, I'm disappointed to lose the series, but the Royals left Detroit with the division lead, so that's a good thing. Now the Royals need at least 3 of 4 (and preferably a sweep) against the hapless Red Sox who are counting down the days to the offseason.78-65
