  • That is why soccer sucks. Tie games.
I feel like I just wasted 95 minutes of my life.

    • Bradley with a crap first touch. Ball goes to Ronaldo. Fantastic delivery. Tie game.

      Piss.

Only in the group stage. After that it's overtime and shootout.

        • If Bradley finished off that freebie in the first half, it's flipping 3 to 2.

Can you tell I'm frustrated with Bradley?

          • So heartbreaking...

Some ties just fell WAY worse then others...

              Well that's at least promising.
Tie games feel like a loss to me, though I'm sure Portugal feels differently.

              • I am far from knowledgeable about soccer, but one thread of consistency that seems to permeate sports in general from my perspective is that I hate prevent defenses. They only seem to prevent winning. I realize you don't want to be overly aggressive but I really dislike going 100% passive.

Consider this an uninformed observation of a soccer neophyte.

I am glad you reminded me of how the sequence started. As I was watching I thought what was thought on Bradley's pass (?) and then it was obliterated from my memory by the next 25 seconds.

                  • The 2-2 draw helps our tiebreaker scenario vs. Ghana quite a lot. We're still a big favorite to advance with a loss and a Portugal win--total goal differential needs to be 4 or less in the two games. And now we advance over a victorious Ghana provided both results our 1 goal and they don't score 2 more in their game than we do in ours.

I have a feeling that Ghana is going to crush Portugal. It's time for Jurgen to use some German connections and secure us a 0-0 draw.

I think both teams will play conservatively as a draw helps both--nothing wrong with that. But the danger of collusion is one real problems of the group play format. I find it completely against the spirit of the game. Klingsman has stated there will be no collusion which I strongly believe.

(@AndShock:, I assume you were speaking tongue in cheek. If not, it's fine to disagree but I would be very embarrassed if the U.S. advanced by that route and would far rather have us be eliminated with Ghana or Portugal advancing.).

The most notorious example of collusion (maybe soft or spontaneous but still collusion): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Ge...80%930_Austria

                            • I am certain collusion will not occur, but I did see where BOTH Germany and the USA are going to start 9-1-0 lineups.

Kidding aside, Germany has one of the most prolific attackers in Müller, and I think they'll let him go for the Golden Boot two Cups in a row -- which has never been accomplished before. I don't see them throttling back one bit. I do see them playing Klose quite a bit too, which is awesome because Klose is FUN to watch!

Be prepared for an aerial attack. It's how Germany rolls.

                              • I think you are right and I was off saying Germany will play conservative. Germany has little to fear with a loss holding a +4 GD and 6 total goals. I think the main factor will be wanting to gain momentum after the disappointment of drawing Ghana.

A tie late in the game I could see them settling for a draw by dialing back the risks because they know they win the group with a point, but I don't think it will be that much of a factor. With Algeria or Russia awaiting our group's winner and Belgium awaiting second place, winning the group is a big prize.
