I'll copy my thoughts from over there into this thread.

It looks as if snow is possible (if not becoming somewhat likely) across portions of Central and SC Kansas this weekend. I would guess amounts in the 2-6 inch range. The big question is, will it stick around for Christmas? At this point I'm leaning towards no. After this system moves through there really isn't a dome of high pressure iwith cold arctic air setting up over the Plains, it's more towards the GL area. This will allow winds to switch back around towards the south and cause pretty significant (relative) Warm Air to come up on Christmas eve. Add in the fact that the snow depth isn't going to be very thick it seems to me as if it will melt before Christmas.

      We'll see.

I'd guess there would be a little bit of both. This morning GFS does have some freezing rain Saturday afternoon, but by Saturday evening the temperature profile throughout the atmosphere will support snow as the dominant precipitation type. With this particular run, the most precipitation would fall as snow. I'd still guess 3-5 inches of snow for the Wichita area. Someone will see 6+ but I doubt it is very widespread.
