  • Rushing to the store before the storm...

If you are one of the sheeple that raced to the store and bought all the milk, bread, and toilet paper because of the impending snowstorm, I just want you to know that I think you are an imbecile.

Man you are right. I stopped by the store (Dillons) just to pick up some bananas and bread (because my wife asked me to because we were out of those two things) and the place was packed. It was a zoo. And unfortunately for me they were totally out of bananas and bread. I guess some people expect this blizzard to last for weeks or something.

The people who would rush to a store and clear it out over a snowstorm that would take half a day to clear the streets (at most) are why I keep a rifle and a pistol loaded at my home. All it would take is a real emergency and there would be zombies in the street.. "I need bread... uhhhnnuhhh (zombie sound).... I need milk... uhhhnnnnuuhh... I need toilet paper.... unnhnnuuuuuuunn..

      Tools.

If you are one of the sheeple that keep multiple loaded firearms in your home because you fear people who buy groceries, I just want you to know that I think you are an imbecile.

BTW, "sheeple"? You seriously are going to call anyone else and imbecile when you use that term? Good luck with that.

Would I be presumptuous if I thought you might be one of those racing to the store today to stock up for the "end of the world" as us Wichitans know it?

Let's see ... you got 50,000 kids that aren't going to be at school for one or two days when they normally would be, and probably 25,000 parents having to stay home to watch those 50,000 kids that normally would be in school. Sounds like people may need a little extra bread for those bologna or peanut butter and jelly sammies. And a little milk for all those extra bowls of cereal. And a little extra toilet paper.

That's 75,000 people (1/4th of Wichita) needing to buy just a few extra supplies.

Doesn't sound like a panic to me -- sounds like common sense.

Common sense would be buying a loaf or two of bread and a gallon or two of milk. Not ten of each.

                      Who bought 10 each?

If each of those families above bought a loaf of bread and extra milk, the stores would run out just the same. I suppose there are some that bought 10 each, but there are a lot of people acting as a two day daycare and feeding 10-15 kids over these two day stints while the kids parents go to work too.

If you are a family of four and stocked up on 10 loaves of bread and 10 gallons of milk, then I agree that's frustratingly excessive because there are a lot of families that will needs those supplies. But I seriously doubt there are many people that did that.

Listen, I have friends in Rose Hill that went to do their normal grocery shopping and the shelves of many items were clean. They said the parking lot was full of Sedgwick county tags and one person in the store he spoke with was from NE Wichita. This was not common sense, this was adults who were in a panic and stopped being rational. Of course a lot of the blame goes to weathermen (whom a abhor) sensationalizing everything during their 5 mins of fame.

My hatred for weathermen started around the 2000 Stanley Cup Finals when they interrupted the broadcast every 5 minutes to "alert" Wichita to a tornado that had a "possibility" of being on the ground in NW Kansas (most likely out of the broadcast range of the station). I almost destroyed my television that day. A simple banner on the bottom of the screen would have sufficed, but the tool had to keep stealing the show so he could repeat the same damn thing, over and over and over.

So does that mean you finally released the magazine from your AR-15, sitting there in your long johns and boots on your recliner until 3 a.m., waiting for the women and school kids to invade your home?

The C0|db|00ded household has moved from condition orange to condition yellow. However, the change in my situational awareness level has nothing to do with the readiness of my weapons which will always remain cocked, locked, and ready to rock!
