I was kind of surprised to read this. I don't watch it, but there seems to be other events that would be less attractive to TV and other viewers. How modern pentathalon survived is beyond me.

It really bothers me that they're choosing sports based on watchability. The point of the olympics, to celebrate athletic achievement, not just one's that are entertaining for the masses. How can they get rid of one of the sports that goes back all the way to antiquity? -
I dont care much for wrestling. Never could watch it and I dont understand the technicality of it.
But to drop it from the olympics is pretty retarded. Not Rainman retarded but Simple Jack status.
I agree with @_kai_: about dropping because of watchability.

Yes it was. Not only has it been a part of every modern games, but was also part of the ancient ones. This is a real head scratcher for me. It's still one sport and apparently they can only have so many sports per Olympics.
