If you enjoy baseball, you will like this, and maybe if you don't but you have an affinity for greatness and athletics, you will still enjoy this. As a baseball fan, I have deep memories about baseball, and an enjoyment for the game that goes back to my childhood, when baseball was my favorite sport, because its a sport that every kid can play. One of the reasons that it was my favorite sport was because you could listen on the radio, and be almost as entertained as watching the game in person or on television. I remember watching MLB players like Mickey Mantle, Lou Brock, Yogi Berra, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Sandy Koufax, etc. that are all HOFers, and "SPECIAL" players, and dreaming that someday I could be like them.

Well, I was thinking the other day, as I was watching a KC Royals game, that a player that has only been in the game for two years, and who just barely turned 24 in June, is destined and almost guaranteed to be one of those Hall of Famers, and "SPECIAL" :players that I listed above. Many future HOF players today are "special" because they are 6'7" and 250 pounds like Aaron Judge, or Shohei O'tani (not as big as Judge but close). These players are just "freaks" of the game and specimens that are beyond comprehension.

However, there is a really "special" player who is not much different (size wise anyway) than anyone of us. And he is playing just 3 hours down the road from us. Bobby Witt Jr. is a young man who just turned 24 a month ago, and is already one of the best MLB players on the planet. He's going to be the next George Brett, but probably even better.

He is unique because of his combined ability of Defense at SS and ability to cover ground, and throwing ability from SS (in the high 90's MPH range, Speed, Steal Bases, Hit for average, On Base Percentage, and Hit for Power Home Runs, Slugging percentage. He is a complete player. There are no other players like BWJ, and he is a possibility for MVP at 24 years old.

Here are some of his statistics in 2024.

    He is leading MLB
    349 BA
    Hits
    Doubles
    Triples
    Runs

    3rd in MLB
    Slugging Percentage

    4th in MLB
    Stolen bases
    Runs Batten in
OPS (On Base Percentage Plus Slugging percentage)

    13th in MLB

    Home Runs

He's having a great year, no doubt. "Probably better than George Brett"?

I don't have time now, but look at George Brett's career his second year. 1974 or 1975 iirc.

We went to opening day. The ball just sounds different coming off of BWJ's bat compared to others. Time will tell how great he is. We thought Mike Trout might become the best player ever, but injuries have detailed that promise. I grew up idolizing George Brett. The tools are there for Bobby to reach or even exceed that high standard. I hope he gets there. The difference right now is that George is THERE, Bobby still has a ways to go. Not knocking Bobby or your take, but so many things can impact a long career. That being said, Bobby is a very special talent. If you are the slightest of a baseball fan, take the opportunity to go watch him play.
