I wish. But it sounds like that bidding is already over what the Royals can or will do. Hopefully he signs somewhere in the next week or so, so KC can get to work on Sanchez

I could read this fine, so I don't know if anyone else will have a problem.

Of course reading it and understanding it may be two different things. What I got out of this article is that Glass indicates the Royals have a grand total of $2 mill left to break even on the payroll and that's what he wants to do.

Good luck on making that go very far.

Also, this potential trade may happen, but is currently on hold.

i saw on twitter the other day that the Royals offered Dempster 2 yr 26 million but he rejected the offer, so it looks like Glass might throw in some extra cash this offseason

Royals just acquired James Shields and Wade Davis for Wil Myers and a prospect package.

Not sure how I feel about this one long term, but the pitching just improved by leaps and bounds. I think .500+ is now a realistic expectation.

This thing just got worse. Royals get James Shields, Wade Davis and PTBNL for Myers, Odorizzi, Monty and Leonard. We give up a huge bat that may be better than anyone currently on the roster, a potential ace or number 2, a wild card and an ok bat. We get a good but not great starter in Shields and a guy who was in the pen last season and was an ok starter the year before. The PTBNL is going to be a nobody.

              Horrible move

Shields adds between 2-5 wins at most for the Royals if he has a good year - and he is 30 and has 2 years left on his contract. Will Meyers is considered one of the best prospects in MLB - he hit 37 HR in the minor leagues last year. If Meyers is good as they think, he is the type of guys who could add 5-8 wins per year.

So how long did all of you want to keep building for the "future"?

Trading for a guy who is decent to good pitcher while giving up two of your best prospects, the best hitting prospect in baseball and young prospect pitcher (Odorizzi) who was expected to compete for spot in the rotation. You just rolled the dice saying you think you are 1 guy from being competitive in the next 2 years. the Royals just traded their future. Royals will have Shields for at most 2 years (9 milliion in 2013, 12 million in 2014). Meanwhile Meyers they would have control for next 6 year, not sure on Odorizzi.

If the Royals are going to challenge next year it is going to be because some of their young players actually play to their expectations (e.g. Hosmer).

Bingo. Davis is just like any other pitcher and Shields isn't what they've been talking about as far as an ace goes. I'd rather have 6 years of Myers and Odorizzi than a rented year or two of Shields. Davis, in my mind, is basically a non factor.

Myers should have been starting in RF this year. Odorizzi should have been in the middle of the rotation this year. And both would be under team control for quite some time. I've defended Moore since he was hired, but I'm done doing that. Tampa fans and management are laughing at us as is most of the baseball world.

Maybe flouride in the water is a bad thing. Obviously something is to blame for what's going on in KC. Management of both the Chiefs and Royals sucks ass.

The fact that Odorizzi emerged as one of the package prospects really makes this baffling. Wil Myers I could buy as being tradeable by himself but tossing in Odorizzi, Montgomery and Leonard is a LOT to give up.

Shield's 25.3 WAR + Davis will help though.

Where are you getting Shields having a 25.3 WAR? In 7 season his WAR is 17, his best year is 5.2 and last two years has been 4.7 and 2.2 respectively. For the Royals to be challenge for the pennent they need to improve their WAR by 20.

I was drawing it from here: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx...059&position=P

As mentioned above, I don't think this resembles a good trade considering that KC gave up the farm in the "package prospects" portion of the trade. That said...You played awfully, awfully fast and loose with the numbers when you said Myers is worth an extra 5-8 wins this year. Maybe if he replicated his numbers from AAA.

ETA: My bad, I am dumb...I see you said 5-8 wins per year (down the road I assume).

Well, we wanted to see Moore strengthen our pitching staff. We know we cannot afford the Aces in Free agency. So our hands are tied. It seems like Moore got the best he could.

I remember hearing many times this past year that if we had even "serviceable" starting pitching we could have won quite a few of the games we lost.

Simple theory is we didn't have the players to get an ace. Now with Shields, Santana, Sanchez, and Chen, we have a slightly better than serviceable rotation that we should get above .500. Moore and the Royals have seen the momentum from having the best farm system and an upgraded Kauffman almost vanish. We need to win. The Pirates and Nationals are both now winning games at a bigger clip than the Royals. How long since we even broke .500?

You can say we gave up too much, but it wasn't a whole lot extra.
