I wonder what prospect(s) they gave up to get his $13 million option? Really shoot'n craps here. :frown:

Brandon Sisk, AAA reliever. KC also received $1mil. This will be a wait and see trade to see if Santana is worth $12M.

        Sounds like a Roger Dorn.

I like it. It's a move in the right direction.

outside of the price tag its a good risk for the Royals. Time will tell and Ill hold off really about it but at least its not giving up Melky for Sanchez (PEDS withstanding)

Hopefully they sign Guthrie and can be competitive with Grienke. Wouldn't mind Marcum but Luke has to go. I know Dayton has said they are looking to add but Ill be honest Im still expecting him to trade Wil Myers for Jurjjens. Hes that idiotic. Offensively we are fine. need to see what Wil can do. Dont have much of a problem with Odorizzi and Wil starting the year in Omaha but as long as they are up mid season.
Rotation will look completely different once Duffy and Paulino get back and by mid season Odorizzi will be up.

I had set a benchmark for KC, that unless they added at least 2 solid starting pitchers (one of which could be Guthrie) I was going pay significantly less attention to the Royals next season. When it came out that they claimed Volstad and Moore uttered "We know who we are. We can't build through free agency.", I was already preparing to box up my Royals gear and put it in the basement.

The Santana news put that plan on hold. I have no idea how good he'll be next year. IN terms of effectiveness I give him a 25% of being Guthrie, 40% chance of being Mendoza, 25% chance of being Chen and 10% chance of being Hochevar. It's a crap-shoot. But at least Santana is legit. And maybe it will pave the way to getting Haren, too, assuming we're on his no-trade list.

              KC has my attention again.

One other thing, I think our attempts to go after Greinke will end with the first courtesy phone call to his agent.

I'm with you. Ill still watch but plans on buying anything or traveling to attend are out the window right now.

Santana is definitely going to be a high risk/high reward guy. I've always liked his stuff. I guess time will tell.

As an Angels fan, I honestly can't tell you what you are getting in Santana. His career has been a bit baffling - all-star good in stretches and more hittable than t-ball on others. While it's not ideal, I suppose that you can argue that having a guy that is sometimes spectacular and will definitely get a lot of wins in those stretches, even with bad stretches, might be better than a guy who is mediocre in every start when it comes to final win total.

Just before the Hottovy move they sent Jefress to Toronto for cash.

Is this how they're going to get money to spend on a big time pitcher?....

Nah. I think both of those guys were DFA'd a couple weeks ago. They got tired of Jeffress. Hottovy was brought in for depth.

3? That seems a bit much. Do we have numbers? I was fine with a one or two year deal but I'm not sure about this. They still need a front of the rotation addition this offseason.
