  • MLB 2023

A new season starts tomorrow - March 30. MLB doing their form of March Madness with games all day long. Three major new changes in effect for 2023 - pitch timer, shift restrictions, and bigger bases (https://www.mlb.com/rule-changes-2023)

Looks like Bally Sports will continue to broad cast Royals baseball games. Also, no Wichita State day at the K for the 2nd year in a row (https://www.mlb.com/royals/tickets/specials).

    Rules changes

Pitch clock - Not a fan, but whatever

Shift restrictions - Dumb ass rule. Instead of telling hitters to get better at their jobs, they go and make it easier for them.

Bigger bases - Don't like it. They're limiting pick off attempts and making it easier to get back and steal.

Bally Sports still sucks ass. I'll only be able to watch the Royals at a bar and that annoys me. Though I guess it's better than MLS that I pretty much can't watch anywhere now.

I'm guessing the WSU days haven't been as well attended/supported as some of the others.

Go Royals, even though I'm becoming less and less interested because I can't watch them and haven't for a few years.
Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
    RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.
Save Shocker Sports - A rallying cry

I used the Bally Sports+ app last year to watch all the games. I didn't have any issues with it on my smart tv. It's only $20 or so a month, which is less than a dollar a game. I've thought about switching to Fubo tv to watch them but don't want to pay their $11 "regional sports fee" for the games. Someone was telling me the other day that Cox has a monthly "regional sports fee" charge as well, although I think it's around $3 or so a month. But Cox is way too expensive overall - it would actually be cheaper for me to go with Fubo tv instead and their fee.

So far, I like the new rules.

No longer do you watch the hitter and pitcher get into "mind games", by wasting time with the resin bag, adjusting his hitting gloves, tying shoes, and just wasting time. I think that as they get used to the rules, they will take more time in between pitches, as long as they don't take too long.

I think that they new "shift" rule where the defense has to have two on each side of second base is good. Metrics were getting in the way of just playing baseball, and I think that more players will just have a nice slightly upward swing, where squaring up the ball will be as important or more important than just blasting for a homerun.

I'm not sure about the bases being bigger, but it is safer at 1st base on close plays. We will see if more teams run more or not. However the pitcher not being able to throw to first base as many times as he wants to, does speed up the game.

Games are lasting pretty much at 2:30 minutes give or take 10 minutes. That might get closer to 3 hours as the players get used to taking extra time between pitches.

I have Bally Sports on my AT&T TV right now, but I've thought about going to Youtube TV. because it's less expensive. I do like the Royals games, but I don't watch all of them and like to watch them when I have time so I record them.

I think that Youtube TV is quite a bit less expensive than AT&T Direct TV. So, can you have the Bally Sports app streaming for only April through September? And can you cancel it anytime, and pick it back up the next year? Bally Sports is not important to me otherwise, because I don't gamble.

Yes - you can either pay for it monthly or pay an annual cost. I only pay for it monthly, which I did last year as well. I think I started on April 1 last year and when September rolled around I put in to cancel it and it cancelled at the end of the month. It operates somewhat like ESPN+ - monthly or annual subscription and there's an app you download and install to watch the games in.

Their main site is at https://www.ballysports.com/packages/ - you enter your zip code and it tells what it shows. For Wichita area codes it has the Royals and the Timberwolves and Thunder NBA games.

Edited to add that they have a free 7-day trial period so that you can try out the app and see how it works before buying.

They are on their way (top of the 7th) to another shutout. And another 2-on, 1-or-fewer outs situation that yields nothing.

Bottom of the 7th now, 2 on, no outs. Can they plate a run?
                        - Dozier Ks. 1 out.
                        - Pratto fielder's choice. 2 out, runners on 1st and 3rd.
                        - Eaton strikes out. On to the 8th.

                        It's almost comical.

Witt Jr ends the shutout with a solo HR to lead off the 8th.

                          Yay.

Reds' Elly De La Cruz steals 2nd, 3rd and home in same inning - ESPN

                            Don't see that every day.
