    • Omaha wins seventh straight road game to improve to 73-50
Verdugo was charged with one earned run on four hits while walking four and striking out seven to become the first Omaha pitcher to reach 10 victories on the season. Juan Gutierrez retired the side in order in the seventh before giving way to Donnie Joseph, who tossed two scoreless innings to secure the win and earn his second save of the series. The three hurlers combined to keep the Padres hitless and did not allow a runner to advance past first base after the third inning.

      Navarro, Naturals Rally in Eighth
Justin Marks went three and a third innings in his return to the Naturals. The left-hander threw 58 pitches and allowed two hits and two runs, while walking two and striking out four.

WILMINGTON HOLDS OFF LATE NATS RALLY
Wilmington, DE - Everyone knows that starting pitching is vital to win baseball games. That has been on full display for the Wilmington Blue Rocks (54-65, 25-24) over the last four nights as Brooks Pounders became the fourth man in a row to toss seven innings, as they took down the Potomac Nationals (53-67, 22-28) by a 4-3 mark on Monday night at Pfitnzer Stadium.

      • Dominant Odorizzi Deals Storm Chasers to Victory
The young right-hander then set down the next five batters in a row before Cust walked again in front of veteran infielder Chris Woodward, who spoiled the no-hit bid with a single to center field on his 104th pitch of the night. Odorizzi again turned away the 51s when Wil Myers made a diving grab on a Nanita liner to end the inning. The Illinois native walked a pair and struck out four over his seven sparkling innings to earn his ninth Triple-A win.
He really should be called up soon. Adcock pitches tonight

Selman Flies Solo in 3-0 Chukars Loss
Selman was great from the get go for Idaho Falls, striking out two batters in the first while holding the Mustangs scoreless through the first four innings. Billings was finally able to pick up a run on two hits in the fifth, but even then Selman bounced back for a scoreless sixth to end his night. Selman finished the night with six innings pitched, giving up just one run on five hits while walking one and tying a career high with 11 strikeouts. Despite the stellar outing, Sam still earned his first loss of the year.
I really wish they'd move him to KC and let him finish the season there. He's another that could move quickly and would like to see him bump up the experience and start in Wilmington next year. He and Zimmer could both reach the Royals about the same time if things go well.

Hernandez rolls, Burlington back in the win column
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Royals center fielder Bubba Starling connected with his ninth home run on the year to tie the game at one.

Just one inning later, Royals catcher Cam Gallagher led off with a line drive single up the middle. Right fielder Fred Ford followed Gallagher with a long home run just to the right of the batters eye, which was followed by a solo shot from first baseman Mark Threlkeld to give the Royals a 4-1 lead they would not surrender

            Clinton blasts Cougars

            Zimmer starts tonight

            Chukars Fall Apart Late
The lack of offense ruined a great relief appearance by Spencer Patton. The General entered the game with the bases loaded and two outs in the fifth and proceeded to strikeout Pigott looking to end the frame. Patton would go on to toss 2.1 hitless innings, recording all seven of his outs via strikeout.
Conroy, Threlkeld lead Burlington past Princeton
Conroy threw seven innings of two hit baseball, striking out four while issuing just two walks. In the process, he picked up his fifth win of the season while keeping Burlington four and a half games up on the second place Danville Braves.

Hopefully we'll hear more on each start. I know I'm going to be skimming the Diamonds in the Rough pieces a little more carefully now.

                      Name To Know: Sam Selman
The Royals selected left-handed pitcher Sam Selman out of Vanderbilt, in the second round of the 2012 MLB first-year player draft. Selman was the 66th overall pick and could very well make a splash in the big leagues a few years from now. He was signed in June and reported to the Rookie League, Idaho Falls Chukars. Selman has immense amounts of raw potential and it’s best we take a closer look at this projectable lefty the Royals view so highly.
