  • The Political Compass

I took this test a while back 'for fun'. Figured some may find it intersting.

A typology of political opinions plotted on 2 dimensions: economic and social.

Just click on the link in the top left 'take the test'. You answer a series of questions and, in the end, you get to see where you are on an X and Y axis and can compare it to notable people. If I remember my coordinate geometry I ended up somewhere around point (0,-3) near nobody  .

Also a section called "Iconochasms" is amusing. For example:

Which founding father said of the proposed American Constitution This is likely to be administered for a course of years and then end in despotism ... when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic government, being incapable of any other ?

    Benjamin Franklin
    Alexander Hamilton
    Thomas Paine
    George Washington

    Answer: Benjamin Franklin

Interesting test, but Gen. Pinochet was hardly a true free marketeer.

Anyone using the power of the state and not the market to run their state isn't free market.

Pretty much smack dab on Ghandi.

What's funny is look at the 2008 candidates. They are all in the same area, regardless of party.

I'm close to the great American, recently deceased, Milton Friedman.

Here's Milton responding to a typical left-wing reactionary question from Phil Donahue:
