Thinking the same thing. People build it, the hurricanes destroy it. So on and so forth. Surely all that rebuild money could be put to a sounder, and better use.

It doesn’t have to be that way. Dykes and damns and levy’s and ditches can be put up that would protect the coast. Instead of investing in infrastructure that could make NOLA a great American city, the taxes are invested in social programs that perpetuate the cycle.

Building below sea level is a man made catastrophe waiting to happen. Trying to engineer that fact away makes no economic sense what-so-ever.

In the waterlogged Netherlands, climate change is considered neither a hypothetical nor a drag on the economy. Instead, it’s an opportunity.

          Just ask the Dutch.

Nothing new is being built in NOLA. Zero permits are allowed nor is there any room for new developments

Cat 4, 130 Kts and still strengthening. Question will be how much more strengthening before land fall.

Sorry…if you are really interested, there is all kinds of info on how the Netherlands controls the sea. They have one city that is 100 foot below sea level and sinking. The bottom line is that there are ways to mitigate should someone have the will to do so.

We currently have the worst of all worlds with no meaningful mitigation and no way to expand thriving. If you halt any building, then there will be no new businesses and anyone that hasn’t left the area is trapped with their property dropping in value and jobs disappearing. NOLA is at risk of being a permanent third world country.

100ft below? That also sounds like a human catastrophe in the making. Maybe it has special circumstances, but man. I'll check into it.

                            It's close to a Cat 5, within 5 mph.

Watching a live cam from Bourbon Street. So far it’s just washing the vomit and urine off the street.
