My Cellphone is bricked I think...

Of course I don't use Apple products (I'm not a noob), and also do not subscribe to cloud backups because I wear a tinfoil hat on that issue (rethinking my life choices now).



Anybody familiar w/ using Odin to flash firmware? I think my bootloader is corrupt. Can't access recovery menu, but can access download mode.

All I want to do is recover my data. Thankfully I did do a Smart Switch backup to PC last June, but there's a lot of data (porn?) I need between then and now.

Don't need the phone, I've got a new 5G-capable one on its way. I am aware of data recovery options where they remove the memory chip from the logic board, clean it, then transfer it to PC via adapters, but I'll save that as a last resort.

Seriously though, I do buy apple because when new tech comes out, Apple products always just work. It takes the rest of the industry 5 years to catch up. Not sure if that will change under current leadership, but it’s been my experience over the last ~ 15 years.

A few years ago I used Odin to root an Android device. It was super easy and there were lots of howtos all over the net. It's been long enough I don't remember any of the details other than it wasn't hard at all. Why not just pull up a howto and get after it?

I did brother. XDA Developers site is very useful. I flashed new firmware and it updated successfully. But it still won't boot up. I don't think I actually "rooted it" though did I?

Unlikely unless you specifically chose firmware built with that intent. How did you select the firmware you used?

The latest stock Odin files for my device. Most of the folks in the thread were complaining about boot loops and such.

Searched "Kies" and it's been replaced by Smart Switch for my device. Unfortunately I can't get it to recognize my phone while in download mode. Odin worked fine though.

Ooof. Well, it's been too long since I have messed with it, but I would research how to use Odin to restore a Samsung device using Samsung's _stock_ firmware (stock being the keyword). Did you use Odin to install stock firmware or some other firmware? If you did try stock firmware, it would take a deep dive into figuring out how to unbrick it. What is the symptom when you actually turn it on? What does it do?

It was definitely the most recent stock firmware. I tried another "generic" version and it failed. When I turn it on it just has this tiny blue phrase in the top left corner: "recovery boot..." in blue.

Found a place in KC that does data recovery: $600-$2k estimate.

Try MobileComm at 21st and Maize. I have used them for physical repairs and they do a great job at a great price. Never used them to unbrick a phone, but you might ask 'em.

Already checked w/ MobileComm and CPR cell phone repair. They ran a diagnostic but stopped short of flashing anything. I have moved beyond their level of technical support which means it may be time to call it quits. This is a sunk cost and the more time I spend on it the sunkier it gets. Thanks for the advice! :)

I did do a backup w/ Smart Switch to pc last summer but I can't access my texts/contacts unless I return the backup to the phone. I'm hoping the data will be compatible with a new device. We'll see...
