  • Severe Weather 2012

Could get an early start this year, with a system coming in Friday. Right now if last nights 0z NAM shows true there could be a significant severe weather episode as mentioned by the NWS in Wichita with their forecast discussion. We will have to watch, the NAM is a little bit of an outlier but with 1200 j/kg CCAPE being forecasted Friday on the NAM it is certainly worth watching.

The gulf has yet to really be scoured out by cold air this year. Providing there are storm systems, moisture should be readily available for an early start to the season this year.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

By the time anyone ever actually figures out the weather on Earth, mankind will no doubt be living on another planet or moon.

If Newt gets elected, they only have about 10 years to prove you wrong.

Where are the weather nerds at? I keep hearing that there's quite a system about to roll in on KS and nobody is talking? It appears that the most likely action is supposed to be northeast of us, but we're still in some threat of weather aren't we? Or are people getting all excited over nothing?

Sub I appreciate the info, those that don't can bypass the thread. By the way as a matter of practice From the months of Marvh through September assume I am in a severe thunderstorm/tornado watch. Thanks for posting the weather updates and PLEASE keep it up!

It was looking a little promising (but very marginal) yesterday but each update kept pushing it N and NE of Wichita, so there wasn't really much to talk about.

The baseball forum was supposedly gonna be used as the Severe Weather 2012 forum this year, since it will be far more enticing than the action going on at 21st and Hillside this spring. Unfortunately, we are in a summer-like pattern so far so there just isn't much going on right now. Weak upper level patterns, lots of capping you'd usually see in the summer time. The thing we weren't getting last year was warmth and moisture, especially early on. Now, we're getting it, but the other typical March and April things, like a strong jet stream overhead, are missing. Par for the course.

                ... No really, deuces.

Apparently it missed more than what I'd been hearing. Lots of lightning in the distance this evening on my drive home from class. Saw a threat zone this morning that we were in and was surprised nobody was talking

A marginal/conditional slight risk with very low tornado probabilities in the spring won't really get much play. Only people hyping it would probably be the TV stations as they try and drum up attention. Tomorrow is another slight risk with Wichita on the southern end. Don't really see much happening and expect it will be much like today.

Towards the end of the week chances increase for several straight days of potent severe weather. Could see Wichita being in 3 straight Moderate+ risk zones outlined by the SPC.

ICT says "classic warm sector severe weather setup" will be in place.

The system is slowing down, which makes Thursday less of an issue for SC KS, but I think that will make the following days even stronger. As surface winds get a chance to back from the SE.

If todays 12z GFS holds up and Sunday continues to look like the day it looks like there then it will be added into the Risk Area tonight.
