"NFHS (U.S. high school) rules define a flagrant foul as a personal or technical foul that is extreme or severe.
    • A flagrant personal foul (or intentional foul) involves excessive or severe contact during a live ball."
I admit I got this from wikipedia, but it didn't say anything about allowing a slow, clumsy, unathletic participate to get away with more than a very athletic and skilled player. I get the impression that some here are making allowances due to ability which is totally unfair to the players being hammered. Remember, he did a swinging clothsline, using his body as leverage, 3 times in the same game. No warnings even given.

If he is such a "teddybear" as his coach implies, I would have thought he would have shown concern for the players flattened. Instead, he slapped hands with his bud, snickered, and/or laughed most of the time.

    We can agree to disagree.

To me, what makes it flagrant is that he isn't just going for the ball, but making a long down-sweep with his arm, that I would consider excessive.

In the two involving #42, the one after the loose ball was a full-on shove. He wasn't just trying to recover his balance. He pushed the kid forcefully. Excessive in my mind. On the other one, he wrapped is right arms around the kid with the ball, then used an upper-cut motion with the left. I saw that very play once in high school. A bunch of us seniors put a Hutch Rec team together. A guy did that to one of our guards near the end of a game we were winning and he got tossed out of the gym.

You could argue that one or two might go by without the refs calling anything flagrant. But after 3, 4 or 5 times, that's willful negligence or outright incompetence.

I had the same reaction to his coach's comments. My guess is that the on-court behavior in that video was coached.

He should have been ejected for the last foul. That was crazy.

"Ralph Miller was one of the finest coaches in the history of intercollegiate basketball. His teams were always fundamentally sound, team oriented, well conditioned, and ran both their offense and defense with great patience. I know of no coach whose teams competed against his, whether it be at Wichita State, Iowa, or Oregon State, who did not have great respect for him."—John Wooden

                Okay ill be that guy.....

Why did NOBODY from the opposing team handle business? Its blatantly obvious the ref wasnt calling anything. Nothing a quick double screen and a donkey punch wouldnt solve. For christ sake kids are soft these days!

Gosh subgod22, you are a lot nicer than I am. I would have given #34 the boot for sure. Here's my take on the fouls.

#1- I got nothing at this point, but I'm definitely having a talk with the kid about playing the ball. I've called intentionals for less than that. Just because he is unathletic does not give him the right to play like a bully, especially when he's over there laughing at every single foul.

                  #2- Common foul, mostly frustration.

#3- Given the first foul, I'm going intentional here. An intentional foul can be called if the official thinks there is excessive contact on a play. To me, that's excessive contact. Again, I've called intentional fouls for less than that.

#4- What everybody has failed to mention is that the kid from the other team pretty much jumps in front of #42 as they are going for the ball. I've actually had officials say they might call a block on the other kid. However I'm just calling a push on #42. What makes it look bad is the full extention of both arms, that and the kid went flying.

#5- Being unathletic is no excuse for that, and the fact that he showed no remorse, would have me calling a flagrant and booting the kid from the game. If he can't do any better than that, he has no business playing.

#6- Nothing here, just a common push foul.

#42 in my opinion took a lot of flack for something that he didn't deserve. Yes, his fouls were hard and stupid, but at least he attempted to help kids up. #34 is just a bully in my opinion, and should not be playing basketball.

I think the officials should be reprimanded for even letting it get to that, but I'm sure they won't be. And the coach is just a bonified idiot. Teddy bear my arse, #34 is a bully, plain and simple. My bet is he'll be in jail by the time he's 21.
