Oakland fakes a FG and runs it for a TD - except they have a delay of game.

Did this result affect Romdeo Crennel’s candidacy for the head-coaching job?

It didn’t help. Certainly, the Chiefs were comdddetitive and didn’t get blown out. And Crennel didn’t false-start, ground the football, drop passes, throw interceptions or commit holding penalties. But well-coached teams don’t make the kind of mistakes the Chiefs made Saturday, and chairman Clark Hunt and general manager Scott Pioli will take that into account.

Does Crennel need to win next week at Denver to get the job?

Probably. Unless next week’s game comes down to a Tim Tebow miracle, a 1-2 record as interim coach might be a tough sell. A 2-1 finish, including that win over Green Bay, would be an easy sell. Crennel does have the players in his corner, as they demonstrated until the end, but coordinators who are popular with their players don’t always succeed as head coaches. Remember Gunther Cunningham?

Did Kyle Orton take any strides toward claiming the starting quarterback position next year?

Not really. He is what he is. He’s a serviceable starter, but he’s not a franchise quarterback to build a championship team around. That’s why he’s with his third team in seven years. But Matt Cassel isn’t the long-term answer, either. The solution lies in the 2012 draft.
