Has anybody here been to a concert at the Orpheum? Are seats in the back of the bottom section (row T or so) very good? I don't want to buy crappy tickets to BB King so I may be too late and just need feedback from somebody who has been to the place.

Indeed I have been there quite often, about a dozen times over the last year (many times for films via the Tallgrass Film Fest) - there's honestly not a bad seat in the house. I've sat up front, in back, and in the balcony, you just can't go wrong. And if your in back that just means that you're closer to the bar :)

As someone who works at the Orpheum, row T are good seats. I would recommend if available row AA in the mezzanine. Not only do you see the artist you see the whole theater. Row O and back you are underneath the balcony but still good seats. Either seats you get I would hurry up and get them they are selling very quick. I wouldn't be surprised if the concert sellouts before New Years. If you have anymore questions e-mail me.Last edited by kawwsu77; December 16, 2011, 01:19 AM.

I wish the Orpheum could get the money raised to finsh the remodel.
The Stiefel Theatre in Salina is nicer has has much better acts we are there four or five times a year and it is a fantastic venue.Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

Shirley,
I have been to both the Orpheum and the Stiefel and I prefer the Orpheum. It is nicer even in its current state. Also one of the reasons the renovation is taking so long is that Wichita has just realized what it has in the Orpheum. Compared to the city of Salina that renovated the old Fox-Watson Theatre in 2 years. Plus the Stiefel was not abandoned for 12 years and succumbed to termites, pigeons, and being home to the homeless like the Orpheum. Also it helped that the city of Salina put money towards the Stiefel. With the current management at the Orpheum good acts will come as long as Wichita supports them. Having the Orpheum restored to its former glory will benefit Wichita and South Central Kansas.Last edited by kawwsu77; December 17, 2011, 02:07 AM.

I have been to both also and I have to disagree about the Orpheum being nicer in its current state, it is clearly not, the seats are very bad, the walls and ceiling are in need of complete restoration.,
There is more seating at the Stiefel and the level of talent overall is much better. Being on I70 is the big plus that is hard for Wichita to compete with, the acts traveling from KC to Denver are much easier to schedule.
I would love to see the Orpheum back in its former glory, I was going to movies there in the 50's and it is 5 minutes from my Riverside home now, it is a shame that I have to drive an hour North to see really quality talent.Last edited by Shirley Schmidt; December 17, 2011, 07:47 PM.Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

The auditorium is not in the same shape as the Stiefel but the lobby, vestibule, and restrooms are better in the Orpheum. Maybe I am partial because I know the history of the Orpheum and that the Stiefel hasn't had the same uphill battles the Orpheum has had to deal with.
I agree that being on I-70 helps the Steifel. If Wichitans want big time acts to come to the Orpheum they have to support them when they do come. Perfect example of Wichitans not showing up was Lyle Lovett. He sold out the Stiefel but only filled half of the Orpheum.
Shirley,
If you come to another event at the Orpheum ask for Keith and I will give you a tour of the Orpheum. I love the history the building has and that Kansas is lucky to have many good venues to catch good acts.
