Successful Minimalist Movie Titles

Ok I am not a movie aficionado by any stretch of the imagination so I thought I would throw this out on Shockernet.

Can you guys give me some very successful movie titles that have these attributes:

1) technologically very simple -- little to no special effects, no animatronics stuff, etc

2) has a very low actor count (including voice actors so animated movies count, but each voice counts as an actor)

3) did very well at the box office for its time

4) would probably stand the test of time and be a good film if redone today (this is very subjective I know)

I'm trying to come up with a short list of super minimalistic films that were quite popular and did very well in their time that I can review.

5) I guess being on a sports site I have to add: No porn! LOL

12 Angry Men with Henry Fonda. It was redone for a TV movie, I believe, with Jack Lemmon and George Scott.

I might suggest "The Wild Bunch" - I think one of the top 10 movies of all time.

I'm not sure how these did at the box office, but they were critically acclaimed and should stand the test of time.

Also from David Mamet is perhaps my favorite movie: "The Spanish Prisoner"

Not a huge box office success, but I love it.

Also "Brick" with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, which in fairness is hailing back to the film noir movies of the 30s, 40s, and 50s. You might want to take a look at "The Maltese Falcon" starring Bogart for old-school film noir.

Night of the Living Dead seems to fit your criteria to a T.



Maybe The Shining or Dr. Strangelove as well.

Both have a relatively low count of "main" characters.
