Maybe we are going to be the Turd Blossoms!

    • With MLB telling teams that there will be a reorganization of the minor leagues (elimination 40 of the 160 teams) - it makes you wonder if Wichita going to end up having unaffiliated baseball when it is all said and done.

      • With Rookie leagues, Low A leagues, High A leagues, Double A leagues, and Triple A leagues (all 30 MLB teams have at least one team in most of those leagues=150) all a part of Affiliated Baseball, AAA baseball (which is what Wichita will get) doesn't jump to the top of my list when I'm considering the eliminations of a relatively small number of teams.

I'm guessing this caught Ta Town by surprise and it would be a major fail if this happens. We have proven nothing in Wichita when it comes to Minor league teams other than not being able to make them work for very long. We could definitely get demoted or cut. Has anyone seen the actual plan yet?

          • I wonder why MLB would feel the need for cutting teams at the lower level unless those teams receive some kind of monetary assistance from MLB. Any back ground into this decision

            • Sorry. Went online and read what is going on. The crux of it is that MLB feels several facilities are not adequate for as they put it "Professional Baseball Players". This part doesn't apply to our new facility but there are other aspects the are being discussed in a new bargaining agreement between MLB and MiLB. Some proposed changes are the number of teams a MLB club can field as well as an agreement on the number of people MLB will furnish for development. Also on the table is the number of teams in a league some will increase and others will decrease. Also how they are set up in regions. Apparently there are going to be numerous changes being looked at even concerning moving the draft after the CWS tournament. This could be really weird and interesting in the end to see where we wind up.

              • This is a very preliminary proposal that is a long way from being adopted. If adopted it would likely affect the upper levels of the minors very little. Every MLB team has just one AAA and AA team and that is unlikely to change. The real impact would probably be A ball and below, especially the rookie leagues if they end up pushing the draft back which I believe is part of the proposal.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

                  back to the name...
Kansas and Wizard of Oz reference as Rainbows, with a Flying Monkey as the team mascot.

If MLB feels facilities are not adequate then wait until they hear what the players make per hour/day/month/year

                      Ain't that the truth.

I think minor league hockey is a great example of what MILB players should be looking for as far as player treatment.

                      • Wichita "Wind Surge" or "Windsurge".

                        [/sadtrombone]

Pretty bad. There were a lot of good ideas out there...

                        Logo isn't terrible, really.

Also maybe some indication that the Wichita flag thing has come full circle and needs to die a little.

                          • Logo and colors are somewhat reminiscent of the Wranglers, which isn't exactly the best first step.

                              • I’m trying so hard to not be a hater, but man did they whiff hard on this. I’m so excited for AAA baseball but this mascot/logo/uniform unveil is kind of a buzzkill.
