    Don't know who the opera singer was in the opening ceremony, but she was amazing!

    Edit: Her name is Aida Garifullina. Worth finding a video of her performing. Amazing singer.

    16 minutes into the match, the AR blows an EASY offside. If you can't see that, what CAN you see? Fortunately it didn't result in a goal. Sheesh.

    Russia is taking it to Saudi. Will end 3 to 0 if nothing else changes.

        So is Russia, but they are clearly out playing Saudi Arabia. Home field advantage is no joke at the World Cup.

            Uruguay should shred Egypt, however Egypt is playing, what, five on the back line? Egypt also has an interesting lateral game.

            Chomper will likely put in a goal and grab an assist. Egypt would probably score a goal except Uruguay's keeper is 6'3" with arms that dangle to the ground.

            With 60 minutes left, I'm going 2-0 Uruguay, but Egypt will have their fair share of shots -- just not sure they can get past Stick.

            Edit: I don't think Egypt is playing a flat five in the back (which would be stupid), but looks like they are playing four flat with TWO defensive mids (which is also stupid).

              If the Pharaohs can't play Salah their chances are slim and none.

              Uruguay almost gave one away there at the end of the half just being sloppy.

              I like that soccer adds time to overcome delaying, but I hate that they randomly allow play to continue when the referee is enjoying the action.

              "Oh, I know the extra minute is up and there have been no stoppages, but let's see what Cavani can do with this run......"

            Egypt has pushed their 2nd defensive midfielder up into the attack. Much better look for them and they are getting their chances now. Looking more like a 0-0 draw or 1-0 victory for Uruguay. That would be a huge victory for Egypt if they can draw this.

                Next up Morocco vs Iran. I don't know a single thing about either team, other than they are ranked #41 (Morocco) and #37 (Iran). This is absolutely a must win situation for either team to have a hope of advancing. A draw would be a disaster for both teams.

                    Uruguay almost fell victim to the classic "if we just show up, we'll win" mentality.

                    Seen is all to often (even in from the Shox); especially in soccer/football.

                      Also, it's easy to say "they should have played Salah", after the result happened.

                      If they held on for a tie or if Salah comes on and gets hurt, then it would be "how could you compromise you team/best player for one game?".

                        Losing to Uruguay is not a disaster for Egypt. The next two games for them are critical though.

                        Morocco is taking it to Iran's left flank. If nothing changes this could be another 3-0 game. Didn't expect that. And we're only 10 minutes in!
