Did anyone else attend the event at Intrust today? Quite a lineup of speakers and lots of financial truth told.

I thought Forbes' comment that he expected the dollar to get re-linked with gold within five years was interesting.

If you bought the ticket with your credit card, make sure you cancel the $39 you're going to get charged at the end of the month.

I think that only applies to those unfortunate souls who went down and signed up for additional seminars with a free trial to the website.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think by purchasing a $1.95 ticket you also signed up for the free trial.

Considering most tickets were purchased by employers to send their employees, I'm fairly certain NCAAbound is correct.

I give it 2.5 stars -- good line up of speakers but could have done w/o infomercials and way too much time between speakers.

I enjoyed most of the headline speakers for various reasons and I'm glad I went.

The more I look into it, the more it becomes obvious they (the Get Motivated!) people are bringing in celebrity speakers and using spirituality (which is HEAVILY used by the unannounced infomercial types) to achieve a level of trust with people so they will sign up for these 1-3 day seminars, where they only give you a little bit of the promised information and do hard up-selling of more (and much more expensive, up to $25,000) educational seminars.

I wonder if the agents/managers of the headliners understand what they are being paid to do?

Because I've always had a desire to dabble in the stock market I signed up for the $99 follow-up stock trading seminar. I'm calling tonight to cancel and hope I will get my money back. Either way, I'm not wasting two more days of my time after reading tons of online reviews of INVESTools.

While I won't go so far as to judge the spirituality of the infomercial guys, I will say they are using their faith to exploit others for financial gain.

They also exploited employers to send huge numbers of employees mainly so they could become a captive audience of potential customers.

I may be in the minority, but I expected the infomercials. I was surprised at how I was willing to sign up for them though. Luckily the friend I was with talked me out of it.

The part I was so frustrated with was not getting to see all of the speakers. Right on the ticket, it said it would be over at 5, I just happened to look at my watch after what I assume was the last infomercial to see that it was 5:30. I was wanting to hear what Bill Self had to say, but I had another appointment at 6 and had to leave.

Overall, I thought it was pretty good, Lou Holtz was great, but I didn't get a lot of motivation out of any of it.

From what I've read today from attendees at other GM! seminars is that every one is virtually the same and go way over time, and it's not due to the headline speakers. I think they fully expect it. Just more deception, IMO, to say it will end at 4:45.

The only consistent message from the speakers was the infomercials. And it's interesting that they marketed this thing for employers to send their employees, but the message was for people to attend more seminars to become financially independent, and by logical extension, quit their 9-5s. How ironic.

This probably doesn't apply to you RS, or perhaps anyone else on SN who attended, but I have to say that I was in downtown for a meeting during the day Tuesday, and in general the demographic I saw coming and going in the general direction of IBA were best described as... uhh... winners.

From what I read beforehand, the whole thing sounded like a cross between those cheeseball motivational posters, and Scientology. How they get highly-respected individuals to help hock their crap is amazing to me. Money must really be the root of all desire.

Those are just the 2 I looked up quickly, and found those numbers associated with them.

If those numbers are true, I think I know how highly respected individuals could help hock the crap they sell at these things. They make more in an hour of speaking than the majority of Americans in a year.

Yeah, so its pretty easy to see how 1.95 a ticket won't cover the cost of the venue and the speakers, and that the infomercial style approach to the things between speakers are needed. Thats where they need to make their money.
