  • 9 innings video interview with Noel Arguellas
Thank you to Noel’s host family for this great interview (they just had a great time getting to know him this season- in the past they have house Mario Santiago, Paulo Orlando, and Sal Perez)

I really learned a lot from this interview…I highly suggest grabbing some headphones and really listening to his answer and/or the translation….You can really hear the pain when he discusses his time in Cuba trying to make something of himself

first 3 videos of Arguellas pitching
I can't listen here at work, but will definitely be checking them out at my earliest convenience. I hope this kid continues to develop and would like to see him in NWA next year.

    • Chasers Win Series Starter in NOLAMetairie, LA - Vin Mazzaro was solid for six innings on the hill and Irving Falu delivered the game's biggest hit as Omaha opened a five-game series with a 4-1 rain-shortened win over New Orleans at Zephyr Field. The Storm Chasers improved to 74-57 and reduced their magic number to clinch their first division title since 1999 to eight.[/quote]Monty

      Naturals down Springfield in eleventh
Besides the win, it was stellar night for Derrick Robinson, who swiped four bases amongst the Naturals' eight on the night and in the process personally edited several entries on the Naturals' franchise record list. His four swipes gives him 52 on the season and establishes a new single-season record, set by himself (50) last season. The four steals also tied a Naturals' single-game record which he established on April 26th, 2010 at Springfield and marked the third time overall that the sppedy Robinson had accomplished the feat in his minor league career. Further, the eight swipes by the team matched a new team record set on July 8th in San Antonio, and added to the franchise record team total (194) the Naturals now have.

ROAD WOES CONTINUE IN 11-3 ROUT
Spot starter Allen Caldwell allowed just three runs over a career-high-tying five innings of work. He needed just 64 pitches to do so, striking out five and walking none in the process. His successor, Jon Keck (0-2), required 42 pitches to secure just two outs as the P-Nats batted around in a four-run sixth. While Keck allowed all four of the runs, his line could have been worse had Ryan Dennick not entered and stranded two inherited runners.

      Kane County spoils Wisconsin's homecoming
GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Kane County Cougars stayed on pace for the post-season with a 4-1 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wednesday night at Time Warner Cable Field. The Rattlers, back home after a seven game road trip, received a solid start from Eric Arnett, but the Cougars had enough for the win.
Kane County (61-66 overall, 33-25 second half) scored two unearned runs in the first inning. Angel Franco reached on a single to start the game. Geulin Beltre was next and he sent a grounder right back to the mound. Arnett fielded the ball cleanly, but was inaccurate with his throw to second. Instead of a double play for two outs, the Cougars had runners on first and second with no outs.

Arnett struck out the next batter. Then, Cheslor Cuthbert singled to right to get Franco home. An error on the play allowed Beltre to score for a 2-0 lead
Leondy Perez is scheduled to start.

Cardinals Shut Out Royals, Sweep Series
Now 0-6, Baez took the loss after pitching three and two third innings, allowing five runs on five hits, while walking three and fanning five. Malcom Culver allowed six runs and six hits in an inning and a third, while in three innings, Andrea Pizziconi surrendered two runs on two hits. In the ninth, David Middendorf threw a hitless inning

        • MWL notes: Billo deceptively dominant
This year, he's torn up the Midwest League with the Cougars. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound right-hander is 9-4 with a sterling 1.74 ERA that leads all of full-season Minor League Baseball. Nine of his first 14 appearances this season came in relief, but he's made 11 straight starts since then, including a dominant performance Aug. 10 in which he took a perfect game into the sixth inning against Peoria.

While Billo tops the ERA list, the way he's throwing this season he's convincing skeptics he ought to be on top of prospect lists as well.

"Billo is one of those guys -- I think people want to call him a prospect -- but he doesn't have that 95-mph arm, but he keeps shoving zeroes up on the board," Kane County manager Vance Wilson said. "He's doing a great job of making people take him seriously."

Billo has only given up 24 earned runs in 124 innings, striking out 114 batters and walking 23. Averaging 83-to-85 mph with his fastball, Billo's headiness as a pitcher enhances his heat.

          • Zephyrs Slow Down Storm Chasers
Omaha starter Mike Montgomery was lifted after four frames and was tagged with the loss after allowing those four runs on eight hits while issuing one walk and fanning three. Robinson's home run in the sixth, his 22nd of the year, cut the deficit to 4-2 but that is as close as the visitors would get.
            Mendoza

            Blazek, Cards whitewash Naturals
SPRINGFIELD, MO - Will Smith pitched eight solid innings and gave up just one run, but the Naturals failed to back him as they lost to the Springfield Cardinals 1-0 Thursday at Hammons Field.
Smith (12-9) ended up with a complete game loss despite tossing a gem. Jose Garcia was the lone blip on his outing, as the Springfield utilityman took the lefty deep with two out in the fifth inning to take the 1-0 lead that held up
            Jeffress

ROLE REVERSAL ENDS SERIES ON HIGH NOTE
Tim Melville led the 2010 Blue Crew with 12 losses. On Thursday, the repeater became the first Blue Rock to reach double-digit victories since Eduardo Paulino went 10-6 in 2009. The right-hander did so despite a two-week stay in the bullpen last month. He has won back-to-back starts for the first time since three wins in as many nods from May 13-24

Ridings' Gem Leads Royals to Victory
After three straight starts where he allowed at least three earned runs, Ridings was on his game. The Appalachian League pitcher of the week from August 8th, he struck out six batters over six innings of two-hit ball. Former Arkansas State Wolverine Ferguson earned his first save, throwing three innings, and allowing two runs on six hits.
            Graffeo
Ridings takes perfecto into sixth inning
Ridings (3-4) ended up allowing two hits, striking out six and without a walk, over six frames as he lowered his ERA to 3.75.

"The fastball and change-up were two pitches I kept going to," Ridings said. "I threw a lot of fastballs trying to get ahead early and get some quick outs. I used offspeed later in at-bats. But mainly just the fastball, located it well."

The 23-year-old was perfect through five innings, allowing only four balls to leave the infield. The first hit he surrendered came in the sixth when Darwin Rivera lined a leadoff single to left field.

"I left the ball up in the zone, 3-1 count," Ridings said. "He put a good swing on it and hit it the other way for a single. Nothing I could do about it then. Just try to get the next guy."

            • Storm Chasers Crush Zephyrs
Metairie, LA - Joaquin Arias collected three hits, scored three times and blasted a three-run homer as Omaha clobbered New Orleans, 14-1, Friday night in the middle contest of a five-game set at Zephyr Field. The Storm Chasers improved to 75-58, pushed their lead over Memphis back to four games and trimmed their magic number to six to clinch their first division title since 1999.
Zephyrs Bounce Back to Beat Chasers
Robinson doubled home Lorenzo Cain, who had four hits, and then scored when Ka'aihue followed with his 11th home run of the season. Robinson matched current Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle for second on Omaha's all-time single-season list with 35 two-base hits and Aaron Guiel for fifth on the team's all-time single-season list with 95 RBI.
Chasers Storm Back to Beat Zephyrs
Pucetas assumed the hill in the third and quieted the hosts bats long enough to allow the Chasers comeback to begin with three runs, including a Joaquin Arias solo home run, in the fourth. The charge continued in the fifth with Clint Robinson's two-run blast, his 23rd of the season, that evened the count.
              Mazzaro

Wil Myers homers, drives in two in loss
The Naturals got one in the bottom of the sixth to re-take the lead but could have gotten more. Wil Myers drilled his homer to the back of the visitors bullpen with one-out in the frame. Jamie Romak followed and doubled and Mario Lisson followed with a single to put runners at the corners. Ryan Eigsti's ensuing sacrifice bunt moved Lisson into scoring position, but, needing to get just one out to escape the jam, Drillers' reliever Adam Jorgenson was able to retire Derrick Robinson on a flyout to end the frame.
              Homers do in Naturals again
Already up 2-0 after the first inning, Wheeler's league-leading 32nd blast with two out in the second off Naturals' starter Jake Odorizzi (4-3) landed in the Naturals bullpen. For Odorizzi, it punctuated the problems he's run into in the Texas League - surrendering the longball.
Mario Santiago was just put on the DL and it sounds like someone in the pen will start. No word yet on who.

              SPECTACULAR DOUBLE PLAY SALVAGES SPLIT
A four-run lead had been shaved to one in the nightcap. With the bases loaded and one out, reliever Jon Keck got Delaware native Derrik Gibson to hit a fly ball to right field. In foul ground by half a step, Nick Van Stratten not only made the catch, but followed with a pea to catcher Jared Dyer at the plate that just beat West Chester, PA product Peter Hissey for a game-ending double play. The outfielder cut a man down at the dish for the second time at the road trip with his seventh assist in 44 games as a Blue Rocks outfielder this season.
MULTIPLE LEADS LOST IN EXTRA-INNING SETBACK
Wilmington's three errors in game lifted its season-long total of miscues to 143. While that total trails Winston-Salem's 146, the Blue Rocks own the CL's worst fielding percentage (.970).
UNLIKELY HERO CLINCHES VICTORIOUS ROAD FINALE
Tyler Sample finished the day with a unique line. In five innings plus two batters, he allowed two runs (one earned) on just three hits. But he walked four, struck out four, hit four batters and tossed two wild pitches. Three of his bruises went off the body of Salem first baseman Miles Head.
              Caldwell

              KC lost 7-19, 3-4, 0-2. They're now in 3rd and 4 games out.

Justin Trapp's Clutch Hit Wins Game
With the game knotted at three runs apiece, the Royals came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth. After Adrian Bringas flied out to right to begin the inning, Derek Hamblen reached base on a fielding error by second baseman Joshua Magee and advanced to second. With the winning run in scoring position and only one out, Jose Rodriguez grounded out to first base advancing Hamblen to third. The next batter, Cam Conner, was hit by a pitch, bringing Justin Trapp to the plate with two outs and runners on the corners. On a 1-2 pitch Trapp hit a drive to right-center field scoring Hamblen for the win.
Apparently this was Saturdays game. I don't see any others. They lost 6-8 last night. Two more games before the season is over. Baez to start.

I give up on IDF. They won Friday and Saturday 5-3 and 7-1 and lost Sunday 2-3. They have today off.

AZL lost 0-8 and won 17-9 over the weekend. Looks like their last game of the season will be played this morning.

DSL is apparently in some playoff. Don't know what it's the best of, but they're down 1-2 with scores of 0-3, 7-1 and 2-3 to the Orioles.

              • Naturals replace 2 injured players with arms from Wilmington
With Jeremy Jeffress and Mario Santiago going to the DL the Naturals needed help for the end of the season and playoffs

Since the Blue Rocks aren’t playing for anything, 2 of their P get a head start on the team they were expected to play for next season…

Elisaul Pimental and Kendall Volz go to AA
Volz and Pimentel added to NW Arkansas roster
Volz acquired in the trade that sent Mike Aviles to Boston compiled a 1.64 ERA for Wilmington allowing 11 hits and a walk in 11 innings while striking out 7. Prior to the trade he struckout 56 in 51.1 innings while putting up a 3.33 ERA for the Salem Red Sox. The 23 year old will be getting his first taste of AA.

Pimentel came over last season from the Dodgers organization in the Scott Podsednik deal and has split time as both a starter and reliever compiling a 3.59 ERA in 133 innings of work while striking out 108 in that time. Pimentel’s previous high inning total was 115.1 last season.
Michael Antonio to spend the final 10 games of the season with Idaho Falls
With the Burlington season ending the Royals want Michael Antonio to continue playing so the SS from New York City will close out the season with Idaho Falls

Scouting reports on Antonio have been very positive with reports of a quick bat and ability to recognize pitches I expect big things from him in 2012….should be with Kane County next season along with some if the best and brightest of the Royals future

                • Lebron, Robinson Star in Chasers Win
OMAHA, Neb. - Willy Lebron pitched three scoreless innings of relief, ensuring that Clint Robinson's go-ahead two-run single would be enough for the Chasers to defeat the Round Rock Express 4-3 Monday night at Werner Park. The victory reduced the Storm Chasers' Magic Number to three with seven games remaining.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth and the Storm Chasers trailing 3-2, Robinson lined Brett Tomko's 1-0 pitch the opposite way into left field, plating two for his 98th and 99th runs batted in. His go-ahead hit followed an RBI single by Lorenzo Cain, who was able to advance to second on the throw home by rightfielder Val Majewski.

Storm Chasers Well-Represented on All-PCL Team
OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers' storybook inaugural season added another chapter Monday, as the Pacific Coast League named Johnny Giavotella, Luis Mendoza and Clint Robinson to its prestigious 12-member All-PCL Team.

Giavotella, the All-PCL second baseman, batted .338 with nine home runs, 72 RBI, 34 doubles and 67 runs scored in 110 games with the Storm Chasers this season. He was honored as the league's All-Star representative at second base and was also named the PCL Player of the Month for June, during which he batted .398 (49-for-123). He was promoted to the Kansas City Royals on August 5.

Right-hander Luis Mendoza was one of three pitchers named to the squad. The 27-year-old has an 11-5 record with a league-leading 2.15 ERA for the Chasers, more than a full run better than his nearest competitor. He has dominated the league since May 26, compiling a 10-2 record with a 1.24 ERA over 108.2 innings pitched, including 9-0 with a 1.19 ERA in 10 road appearances. He threw a complete-game, one-hit shutout at Memphis on July 18.

Clint Robinson, honored as the designated hitter for the All-PCL Team, has been one of the hottest hitters in the league over the past two-and-a-half weeks, pushing his season numbers into awe-inspiring territory. The 6-foot-5, left-handed slugger is batting .478 with four home runs, 24 RBI and 11 doubles in his past 18 games, giving him a season average of .329 with 23 homers, 97 RBI and 35 doubles. His 35 doubles rank second on the all-time single-season franchise list, one ahead of Giavotella and two off of the record of 37.
Naturals cough up six homers, division lead slips to one
SPRINGDALE, AR - One of the wildest games in Arvest Ballpark's four-year history did not end up well for the home club as Tulsa departed with a sweep of a pivotal three-game series and a 13-9, ten inning win over the Naturals Monday night.
In a game that was tied three times and featured 21 runs, 33 hits, six homers, seven errors, and some questionable baserunning and umpiring, Tulsa (32-31, 65-68) ultimately used a four-run tenth and two of those homers to notch the win. The win and sweep of the series brings them to within a game of tying the Naturals atop the second-half standings in the Texas League's north division, a division the Naturals led by a six game margin only five days ago.

ROCKS BLANK PELICANS TO OPEN FINAL HOMESTAND OF SEASON
Caldwell set the tone early. Making only his second start as a Blue Rock, the normal reliever kept the Pelicans off the board over 5.2 strong frames. The left-hander allowed just one hit, while striking out six and walking only one.

Caldwell faced the minimum three times and retired the side in order once. He saw just one runner reach scoring position, and that came on a two-base error by third baseman Michael Liberto in the third. The former position player picked up his corner infielder by retiring the next two batters with ease and stranding the man at second.

                  KC won 5-4

                  Errors Prove to be Costly
The Royals quickly responded in the top of the sixth with a lead-off homer by Cam Conner to tie the game at 4 runs apiece. The next batter, Trapp, was hit by a pitch, putting the potential lead run on first. Murray Watts popped out to third, making the first out of the inning. Trapp proceeded to steal second and third during Bonifacio's at bat. The two steals give Trapp a league leading 31 steals on the season. Bonifacio ended up striking out, bringing Jin-Ho Shin to the plate with two outs before he too would eventually strike out swinging.
                  TBD

Brooks and Carl Named to All-Star Team
The Idaho Falls Chukars are proud to announce that pitchers Aaron Brooks and Edwin Carl have been named to the 2011 Pioneer League All-Star team.

Brooks, a 9th round pick in the 2011 draft, currently ranks among the league leaders with 5 wins (fifth), a 3.52 ERA (third), 69 innings pitched (second) and a 1.22 WHIP (fourth). Brooks was also named the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week for the second week of August.

Carl meanwhile has been one of the most dominant relievers in the league all season. The former 2010 non-drafted free agent currently boasts a 3-1 record with a 1.36 ERA and five saves. Carl also currently leads all Pioneer League relievers in BAA (.143), strikeouts per 9 innings (19.36), and fewest base runners per 9 innings (5.73). Perhaps his most impressive stat however, is his 71 strikeouts in just 33 innings pitched, placing him third among all pitchers in the league.
They also had three named Honerable Mention.

                      • Teagarden's Homer Party Taxes Chasers
Montgomery would only complete one out in the fifth, as the 22-year-old left-hander ran his pitch count to 93 before giving way to Robinson Tejeda. Montgomery allowed two runs on six hits in 4.1 innings pitched, walking one while striking out six.

Naturals stop skid with win over Travs
Offense on both sides was limited for the first several frames as Jamie Romak's 23rd homer of the season, a solo shot to lead off the second inning provided the only offense before the seventh inning as the Naturals held onto a 1-0 lead. With the homer, Romak rose into a three-way tie with Mario Lisson and Clint Robinson for the Naturals' franchise all-time mark for home runs (29).

Given just the lone run to work with, Smith (13-9) let his pitching do the talking. He stranded a pair of Traveler runners in scoring position during the second in impressive fashion, striking out two after allowing a walk and a one-out double, and at one point beginning with the final out in the third, retired 11 straight.

                        ROCKS FALL FLAT AT HOME
Wilmington, DE - Tim Melville could not locate his command and the Wilmington Blue Rocks' offense could not find its footing on Tuesday night at Frawley Stadium. The result was a 6-2 loss for the Blue Crew at the hands of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, a setback which ended Wilmington's season-long seven-game home winning streak.
Walks did in Melville (10-10). The right-hander issued five free passes in only 4.2 frames. He also hit a batter and uncorked two wild pitches. Two of the walks led to scores as Myrtle Beach plated four runs against the Wilmington starter.

                          • Mendoza Earns PCL Pitcher of the Year Honors
OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha Storm Chasers right-hander Luis Mendoza has been named the 2011 Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year, the league office announced Wednesday. Through August 30, he has compiled an 11-5 record with a PCL-best 2.15 ERA, a league-best 1.25 WHIP and has held opponents to a league-low .241 batting average.

In addition to his PCL Pitcher of the Year Award, Mendoza has been a part of the 30-member mid-season PCL All-Star Team, the 12-member post-season All-PCL Team and won the league's Pitcher of the Week award for the week ending August 21. He has also been named the Omaha Pitcher of the Year by the Kansas City Royals organization.
                            Omaha Chases Down Division Crown
OMAHA, Neb. - Mike Jirschele stood on a folding chair in the clubhouse, surrounded by the smiling faces of his Storm Chasers players. He gave his remarks, made a toast and was ceremoniously doused in a shower of champagne and beer. Division champs, at long last.

The Storm Chasers blasted the Round Rock Express 12-2 Wednesday night at Werner Park, then waited out a nail-biting 3-2 victory by Albuquerque over Memphis that ultimately gave the Omaha franchise its first postseason berth since 1999. The jubilant clubhouse reaction ranged from Sean O'Sullivan's Michael Jackson dance exhibition to the playful antics of fan-favorite Irving Falu to the knowing smile of Jeff Suppan, a veteran of clubhouse celebrations on the grandest stage.
Rightfielder Lorenzo Cain went 5-for-5 on the night for the Chasers, contributing five of the team's 14 singles. Mertins went 3-for-5 with a run-scoring triple, Falu singled, tripled and drove in three and Jarrod Dyson went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI of his own.

Mendoza (12-5) settled down after allowing doubles to the first three batters of the game, surrendering just one more hit over six innings of work. He finished the game with an ERA of 2.19, still more than a run better than his nearest competitor in the PCL. Eric Hurley (8-3) took the loss for the Express, allowing 10 runs in five innings pitched.

Early deficit too much to overcome
Pimentel (0-1), in the difficult situation of making his Texas League debut on short rest, having pitched for Advanced Class-A Wilmington against Salem on Saturday, allowed four runs before recording an out. He plunked Travs' leadoff man Matt Long then walked Darwin Perez before allowing back-to-back homers to Luis Jimenez and Gabe Jacobo. A fifth run off a leadoff error by Naturals' third baseman Mario Lisson put the Naturals in a 5-0 hole heading into the second.

                            WILMINGTON WATCHES LATE LEAD EVAPORATE
The late rally spoiled a strong start by Wilmington southpaw Justin Marks. The Kentucky native allowed five hits, but kept the Pelicans off the board for six frames. His biggest asset was his ability to wiggle out of jams. Marks stranded six men on base, including four in scoring position.
Before the game the Kansas City Royals sent Wilmington third baseman John Whittleman to Triple-A. Whittleman leaves the Carolina League ranked top-five in the loop in homers, RBIs, extra-base hits, walks and slugging percentage. He is only the third Blue Rock ever to hit at least 20 home runs in a single season.

Kane County clinched a playoff spot with the victory
Cougars starting pitcher Jason Mitchell earned the victory - his third of the season. Mitchell (3-0) retired the first 10 Kernels hitters he faced, going 5.2 innings and giving up no runs on three hits.
                            IDF won 5-2

Burlington, AZL and DSL have finished.

                            • Chasers Drop Regular Season Home Finale
All of the Storm Chasers' scoring took place in the bottom of the first inning off eventual winning pitcher Martin Perez (4-4). After loading the bases with nobody out on two walks and a bunt single, Lorenzo Cain hit an RBI ground out to make it 1-0 in favor of Omaha. Joaquin Arias followed with a two-run single and Manny Pina added a sacrifice fly, making it a 4-0 ballgame in the early going.

Naturals hang on for win Thursday
SPRINGDALE, AR - After a harrowing ninth-inning that saw the tying run move into scoring position, the Naturals were able to lock things down for a 5-3 win over the Travelers on Thursday night at Arvest Ballpark.
The win combined with a Tulsa Drillers loss to Springfield means that the Naturals (35-31, 70-63) once again are in sole possession of first place in the Texas League North Division second half race. Secondly, the outcomes ensure the Naturals would not have to sweep the Drillers on the road in order to claim a spot in the playoffs.
Dwyer finishing strong in Texas League
The Royals' No. 6 prospect carried a one-hitter into the seventh inning as Double-A Northwest Arkansas beat Arkansas Travelers, 5-3, on Thursday night. The Naturals began the day tied with red-hot Tulsa, winners of nine straight games, for the best second-half record in the Texas League North Division.

Dwyer (8-10) wound up allowing one run on three hits in 6 1/3 innings of work. He struck out four and walked three.

The 23-year-old southpaw retired the first seven Travelers before issuing a walk to Alberto Rosario. Darwin Perez then lined a single to center field, but was thrown out at second trying to take an extra base on the throw to third. Dwyer fanned Matt Long to end the inning.

Following a leadoff walk to Chris Pettit in the fourth, Dwyer set down nine in a row before walking Luis Jimenez to start the seventh. Gabe Jacobo then singled to right, but he was thrown out at second trying to move up on the throw to third. After Roberto Lopez's single plated Arkansas' first run of the game, Dwyer's night was over.

ROCKS LET LEAD SLIP AWAY AGAIN
Before the game, the Royals sent the Blue Rocks an infielder to replace recently promoted power hitter John Whittleman. A 49th-round pick in the 2011 draft by Kansas City, former University of South Carolina star Adrian Morales has joined the team from the Rookie Arizona League. Managed there by former Blue Rocks skipper Darryl Kennedy, Morales hit .323 with six doubles, four homers and 28 RBIs in 34 games for the Surprise Royals. With time defensively at first, second and third, he assembled a .436 on-base percentage to rank fourth in the league. The Florida native tied for second on the squad in homers and RBIs while playing on the same team as Milford, DE product Jerrell Allen. He was a college teammate of Blue Rocks utility man Whit Merrifield in college.
Rocks have today off. Sample starts tomorrow.

Kernels score eight unanswered to top Kane County 9-6
Kane County jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings. The Cougars plated two runs in the first inning. Kernels starter P.J. Jang walked Kevin David with the bases loaded to score Geulin Beltre and give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Orlando Calixte's RBI sacrifice fly plated Cheslor Cuthbert, giving Kane County a two run advantage. The Cougars added three more runs in the third inning. Jovan Pickett's RBI single scored Juan Graterol, extending the lead to 3-0. With runners at the corners Pickett stole second base, and Kernels catcher Francis Larson's throw sailed into center field to score Yowill Espinal. With the Cougars leading 4-0, Pickett then scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by Beltre to make the score 5-0.
                              IDF won 7-4.

                              • Minor League Profile LHP Allen Caldwell
Allen Caldwell was drafted in the 12th round 2008 as a OF out of Spartanburg Methodist College. He went to HS in South Carolina

As a OF in the system he hit just .215 with 6 HR in 410 at bats. The Royals moved him to P in 2010 and he is 8-3 with a 3.05 e.r.a and 92 k 24 bb in 71 innings. He is currently pitching for the Wilmington Blue Rocks.

He will turn 24 next spring training…here is his scouting report from someone that has seen him several times this season.
                                Friday Notes
Since our last edition of the notes, it’s been a bit of a weird week for the Royals. They went 3-4 in the last seven games, but actually had a legitimate opportunity to win all seven of those games. Strangely enough, it was the bullpen that was the culprit in most of the losses after they’d been such a strength for most of the season. Of course, you can probably attribute that to the poor starting pitching the Royals have received throughout the season that has caused the workload of the relievers to just become too much. Actually, it’s been almost two weeks since the Royals have had a game where they had no shot to win. It was the 6-1 loss to Boston on the 21st that I had the pleasure to attend. Is being competitive in games the first step to being competitive in the playoff race? I sure hope so.
Hopefully the man who will be Hosmer’s partner in crime for the next few years, Mike Moustakas, has turned a corner. His hitting streak lives on and is now at 15 games. He had actually raised his batting average in each of the first 11 of them before going 1-5 in the 12th game of the streak to lower his average a bit. I only bring that up because I saw a snippet that in Dan Uggla’s long hitting streak from a couple of weeks ago that he raised his average in 27 consecutive games which is probably a record or something. Back to Moose, though. The only thing that isn’t encouraging about the hitting streak is that he’s not hitting any homers, but he definitely is driving the ball. He’s had a lot of singles on the streak and just four doubles, but there was one ball that was an absolute rocket off the wall in Toronto where he got thrown out at second and a few of his hits were absolute rockets. I think he’s close and I think he hits six or seven homers in September. I hope so anyway.
I believed that Salvador Perez was rushed to the big leagues, and I still believe that. I think the Royals coaching staff would believe that as well, but I can’t deny that I’ve been very impressed by him in his short time with the big club. I was very excited to see him play defense and especially throw, but I was intrigued by the potential in his bat. You could always tell that he was going to hit at least a little bit because his swing is just so easy that he’ll make some contact and have some hits fall in, but I’ve been surprised by his power at times. Every so often he’ll just mash a ball, which shouldn’t be surprising given his size, but it is. His homer in Detroit on Tuesday was a thing of beauty and if he can be a .280/.330/.450 type hitter at the big league level with the way he plays defense then the Royals are looking at their solution at catcher for a long, long time.
Also some notes on Hosmer, Adcock and Omaha.
