  • Omaha Hangs on for 7-6 Victory
Down 2-1 entering the third inning, Cody Clark lead off with a bloop single and moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jarrod Dyson, with Dyson reaching safely on an error. David Lough followed with a bunt single - which resulted in yet another error, allowing Clark to score from second to make it 2-2.

After Lorenzo Cain - who homered in the first inning - was hit by a pitch, Clint Robinson ripped a two-run double to make it 4-2 Chasers. Kila Ka'aihue then stepped to the plate and belted his eighth home run of the season and third in his past five games, making it a 7-2 ballgame in favor of Omaha.

From there, it was a race to complete the full nine innings before the Grizzlies scored enough runs to catch up. Mike Montgomery finished six frames to get the win and improve to 5-7 on the season, allowing five runs on eight hits with three walks and six strikeouts. He allowed solo home runs to Edgar Gonzalez and Max Ramirez, his 13th and 14th homers allowed on the year.
    Soup starts Friday.

    Frisco capitalizes on Naturals' mistakes
FRISCO, TX - Naturals' reliever Eduardo Paulino loaded the bases in the bottom of the tenth on two walks and a hit batsmen, then threw the ball away as Frisco scored the winning run on his wild pitch, walking away with a 4-3 win.
Dwyer is looking to win his 5th consecutive start today

Rocks Offense Virtually Non-Existent In Doubleheader Sweep
Game one was a wire-to-wire win for Winston-Salem. The Dash chased Wilmington starter Tim Melville after only 2.2 innings, scoring once off the right-hander in the first, and three more times against him in the third.
Noel Arguelles attempted to match him pitch-for-pitch, and did just about that during his five frames on the hill. Arguelles (4-6) pitched around a two-out double in the first and then avoided damage after an inning-opening infield single in the second. He finished his outing with five strikeouts and without a run on the board.[/quote]Pimentel gets the call.

Billo carries perfect game into sixth
Billo took a perfect game into the sixth inning as Class A Kane County blanked Peoria, 6-0.

The Royals' 28th-round pick in 2008 retired the first 17 batters of the game before allowing a single to Ben Klafczynski with two outs in the sixth. Billo recovered to get Taiwan Easterling to fly out to center field, ending his night.

"I had him 0-2 and I was trying to throw a fastball away. I just left it up and he hit it up the middle," Bill said. 'I did realize [the perfect-game bid]. I've taken it to 5 2/3 innings before and I was hoping to take it six."

Billo finished with three strikeouts and retired 10 batters on groundouts.

"My fastball location was pretty good," he said. "I was able to keep the ball down and I was able to change speeds with my change-up and curve to keep them off balance."

Billo (9-2) lowered his ERA to a Midwest League-leading 1.40 and is ranked second with a 0.95 WHIP. The 21-year-old right-hander has appeared in 23 games -- including 14 starts -- and has struck out 105 batters over 115 1/3 innings for the Cougars.

"I would hope so," Billo said about staying in the rotation. "I like coming out and starting the game. I don't mind relieving if that's what the Royals have planned for me, but I'd like to be in the rotation."
    Royals Shut Out at Greeneville
Graffeo gave up two earned runs, three overall, on five hits, in five innings, raising his ERA to 1.77. Ferguson surrendered two runs on three hits while striking out four in his three innings of work
    TBD

    • Not a good day down on the farm...

Omaha had the day off. Soup starts.

      Naturals' early deficit proves costly
In the loss, Rey Navarro posted a three-hit game while Wil Myers and Anthony Seratelli notched two hits apiece in what was a 12-hit performance for the Natural offense. Aside from Eigsti's homer, however, none of those hits went for extra bases
      Odorizzi takes the hill.

      WILMINGTON BATS BEFUDDLED BY HILLCATS
Meanwhile Wilmington starter Elisaul Pimentel had no such success. The right-hander's command was off as he walked three and hit one in five innings pitched.

Pimentel (5-7) allowed four runs, but it could have been much worse. The ranked prospect stranded two in scoring position in a scoreless first and then runners at first and second in the next two frames.
      Sample scheduled to start tonight.

      KC lost in extras 6-9.

Burlington Pulls Away Late to Down Greeneville
Greeneville, TN- Kenny Swab hit his first career home run to help lead the Burlington Royals to victory on Thursday night, 6-2. Abel Gonzalez picks up his first win of the year, as the Royals take the series from the Greeneville Astros, two games to one.
Greeneville had a 2-0 lead entering the fourth, but from there, Burlington would own the night. After Jin-Ho Shin doubled and Adrian Bringas walked, Kenny Swab stepped to the plate with two outs. The former University of Virginia Cavalier smacked a pitch from Adrian Howser over the left-center field fence for his first homer. The three run shot gave the Royals a one run lead.

Neither team could crack the scoreboard until the eighth. Jorge Bonifacio doubled with one out, and then the Astros intentionally walked Murray Watts to get to Shin. The South Korea native singled to center, scoring Bonifacio. In the ninth, with Cam Connor on third and two outs, Justin Trapp flied a ball to left field, and was able to make it all the way around the bases for an inside-the-park home run. For Trapp, it was his sixth home run this year, and is the second inside-the-park homer for a Royal this season. Greeneville was retired in order in their final at bat, as Burlington held on for the 6-2 victory.
      Murray gets the call.

IDF doesn't have an article up yet. They lost 5-7. Moen to start.

AZL didn't play and DSL won 13-7.

      • Rough Start to Road Trip for Omaha[quote]Omaha left the bases loaded in the third but posted a pair of runs in the fourth, on a bases loaded walk to Manny Pina and an Irving Falu sacrifice fly, to trim the lead to one. However, Salt Lake got a run back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI double from Rian Kiniry, who was later thrown out at the plate by Lorenzo Cain trying to score on an Amarista single[/qoute]Storm Chasers Pound Out Win Over Bees
Salt Lake City, UT - Jarrod Dyson and Lance Zawadzki hit home runs in support of six sharp innings from Sean O'Sullivan as Omaha downed Salt Lake, 11-6, Saturday night in the second of a four-game set at Spring Mobile Ballpark. The Storm Chasers improved to 66-54 and maintained their 4 1/2-game edge on Nashville and five-game cushion on Memphis in the American Conference North Division.
Bees Walk Off With Win Over Chasers
Omaha starter Vin Mazzaro yielded just a lone run on seven hits and matched a season-high with 10 strikeouts but was not involved the decision. He was removed after a two-out walk to Alexi Amarista, his third of the game, with two outs in the seventh before Zach Miner came on to record the final out of the inning.

Odorizzi (4-2) walked two and struck out three in his best Double-A start. He did not allow a runner to reach second base until the fifth inning, when Jonathan Greene singled with two outs and Engel Beltre walked. He retired Davis Stoneburner on a fly ball to center field to end the threat.

The 21-year-old right-hander threw 57 of 98 pitches for strikes, exiting with a runner at first and one out in the seventh. He faced four batters over the minimum in his eighth start since moving up from Class A Advanced Wilmington.

Odorizzi had struggled since making the jump to the Texas League on July 7. He surrendered 10 runs on 10 hits over 10 1/3 innings in losing his previous two starts but lowered his ERA to 4.57 on Friday.

Overall, Odorizzi is 9-6 with a 3.49 ERA and 135 strikeouts over 123 2/3 innings between Wilmington and Northwest Arkansas.
        Naturals batter Haviland, 'Hounds
Colon was one of four Naturals to record a multi-hit game on Saturday, as the shortstop singled twice and drew a walk. Seratelli lead the way with three hits - including two doubles - while Orlando and Mario Lisson also picked up a pair of base hits.
Naturals top Midland, win third straight
Will Smith (11-8) pitched seven innings, yielding the RBI double in the third plus an RBI single from Stephen Parker in the Midland sixth. He allowed six hits in all and fanned six without issuing a walk.
        Jeffress gets the start.

ROCKS' BATS RETURN IN CONVINCING VICTORY
After digging themselves a 1-0 deficit in the top of the first, the Rocks used three extra-base hits to post a crooked number in the home-half of the frame. Whit Merrifield got the evening started in style with a triple to left. Carlo Testa was then hit by a pitch, putting runners at first and third for Nick Van Stratten. The Wilmington right fielder tied the game by doubling down the line in left to score Merrifield. John Whittleman followed with a sacrifice fly to center that made it, 2-1, and then Ryan Stovall added to the advantage with an RBI chopper to short. Yem Prades capped off the inning when he sent Matt Crim's (1-7) next pitch over the left-field fence, for a solo homer.
Rocks Register Fourth Walk-Off Victory Of Season
Marks ended his outing with six strikeouts. He left with two men aboard in the eighth, but Bryan Paukovits came on from the bullpen and stranded both on base. Paukovits (2-2) also kept Lynchburg off the board in the ninth to earn the win.
Before the game Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reported that the Royals have shut down Wilmington pitcher Noel Arguelles for the remainder of the season. Dutton also wrote that Arguelles has been sent back to the Royals' complex in Surprise, AZ. The Cuban southpaw made 21 starts for the Blue Rocks, going 4-5 with a 3.20 ERA. In 104 innings pitched Arguelles fanned 64 and walked only 24, positing a .245 batting average against in the process
Hope they're just being cautious and nothing has happened. Sunday's game was rained out.

KC lost 2-7 and won 4-3 and 3-2. Kane County hands Kernels second straight one run loss
The Cougars scored first in the third inning, taking a 1-0 lead. Orlando Calixte singled to begin the inning and later came home on a RBI single by Angel Franco.

Kane County extended their lead to 3-0 with a two run home run by Brett Eibner, his 11th of the season
Danville Pulls Away in Ninth Inning, Defeat Burlington
The Royals scored first when, in the third inning, Anthony Howard led off with his second home run of the year. The solo shot to center field gave the home team a 1-0 lead, but their offense would continue in the inning. After Lane Adams walked with one out, Justin Trapp doubled to center to bring in Adams from first, and give the Royals a two run spread. Trapp would advance to third after Ross threw a pickoff attempt into centerfield, then Michael Antonio grounded out to bring in the runner from third, and give Burlington a 3-0 lead.
Royals Can't Crack Filak, Fall to Braves
Burlington centerfielder Lane Adams had two of his team's six hits, scoring one of the Royals' two runs. Swab and Trapp each went 1-for-3 with Swab, the designated hitter for the home team, scoring Burlington's second run.
Braves Jump On Royals in Rain Shortened Game
For the second straight night, Adams was the only Royal to hit more than once. The center fielder went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Cam Connor scored the other run for the B-Royals in a 1-for-3 night. Murray Watts went 1-for-2 with two walks, while Antonio was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
        Burlington is off today.

        Peacock's Revenge: Chukars Win 6-4
Peacock (3-4) actually held the Ghosts hitless through the first four innings, before giving up both his runs in the fifth on a two-out, 2-run home run by Casper designated hitter Francisco Sosa. Peacock would finish the night with five innings pitched, allowing two runs on just two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
The IDF site sucks. Chukars' Mateo cycles, plates eight
Mateo hit for the cycle, went 5-for-5 and plated eight runs -- all career firsts -- but was walked in his final plate appearance as the Idaho Falls Chukars outslugged the Raptors, 15-10.

"I got good pitches to hit and stayed patient," Mateo said through hitting coach and translator Omar Ramirez. "I never thought about [the cycle], I didn't even know. Somebody told me in the dugout that I hit for the cycle. It wasn't on my mind."

It took only four at-bats and five innings for Mateo to accomplish the feat. The switch-hitting shortstop smacked an RBI double in the first, an RBI single in the second, a two-run homer on a high fastball in the fourth and a bases-loaded triple in the fifth.

"It was nice. Everybody was congratulating him," Ramirez said. "But I don't think he [realized] he got it until well after."

Mateo also delivered a run-scoring single in the seventh before coming to the plate with two on, none out and the game tied at 10-10 in the ninth. Yimi Garcia (4-2), the fifth of the Raptors' six pitchers, wanted no part of him and gave him a free pass. The moved proved costly as Garcia also walked Henry Moreno to plate the go-ahead run.
        Brooks to start today.

AZL lost 6-10, won 5-4 and lost 2-3 over the weekend. DSL lost 2-5, 2-3 and won 3-2. They still have a 3.5 game lead.

        • The Starting 9
Week of August 7 thru Aug 13

Our weekly look at the top performers in the Royals Minor league system.

A good week for a couple prospects who had been struggling with Clint Robinson and Daniel Mateo who had been in some mini-slumps exploding out of them. Young shortstop prospect Humberto Arteaga had a great week as well while Will Smith continued his good second half.
A REALLY good week for the list. Some impressive numbers.

Here's an interesting read about a former Royals prospect who will be attending Boise State to play football.
In this game you will come across players that you cheer for more than others. Hilton Richardson is one of those guys. I consider Hilton a friend and I am happy to talk about the next step in his journey.

You are not supposed to have friends in baseball when you cover a team, but you know on some level that is impossible. One thing I learned from guys like Mike Jacobs, John Buck, Willie Bloomquist and Mike Swanson is this….it is ok to be critical as long as you are prepared to answer to the player and also as long as you do not call say unprofessional things like “who does this guy have pictures of to be in the big leagues” (I made that mistake once and faced Tony Pena JR before a game- that conversation went really well and I learned from it) The reason I mention that is because I did get to know Jacobs and Buck well and they understood my job and respect it…which is what a big leaguer should be like.

I never set out to be a journalist…actually, I was just in the right place at the right time. In my time doing this I have developed relationships with scouts, players, agents, parents and sometimes those relationships develop into a friendship. I consider Hilton to be a friend and this is something that developed after all of the great stuff I wrote about him on the site (I have never let my relationships hinder how I write about a player)

When Hilton was released I felt awful for him and his father Ron. I had just left spring training and had a long talk with his dad and him about his goals for the upcoming season. After his release I called a few clubs I have contacts with trying to get him a shot. He signed on with the Braves (I had nothing to do with that) and went to extended in Florida before being assigned to the Rome club. His first game he went 4-4 and I sent him a congratulatory text message. I spoke with him throughout the season and in that time we began talking about football.

He had never played football but if you have ever seen him you would know that he looks like a NFL WR. I have a very good friend who is a GM in the NFL and I talked to him about Hilton to get some advice. As the season went on and Hilton was really struggling he had a strikeout in a game and heard a fan yell “you need to play football”

I still believe Hilton had a shot in baseball and so did he and that was his focus and motivation. In July the Braves released him and we talked for awhile about the next step. I told him that I would be more than happy to work my contacts at KU but I felt that program did not make a lot of sense to me for his strengths. He had told me before about how he had thought about Boise State because he had contacts there through a friend and I agreed that the Boise State program made a ton of sense.

I knew he was ready to give football a chance and if I were running a program and I saw this young man and saw him run I would be all over him. A great project that could pay off big down the road. I really do believe that football is a sport unlike others that can be taught regardless of age. Hilton is a quick twitch athlete with blazing speed, long legs, powerfully built and great quickness.

He and I talked about positions, that is up to Boise State, but to me WR is a no brainer. The Boise State program passes a lot. I think this year will be the education and next season I hope to see Boise State rewarded for their risk (for which, I see little)

Hilton thought about going the Independent rout in baseball and for most kids I would agree but Hilton is not most kids. Independent baseball can be a tough life and at Hilton’s age this is the best time to go to college start working on the degree and give the athletic efforts to the gridiron. This Monday Hilton begins his journey to be the next great football player at Boise State.
His talk with Hilton is at the bottom of the link.

            • Four-run Ninth Sends Chasers Past Salt Lake
Salt Lake City, UT - Kila Ka'aihue's two-run home run finished off a four-run ninth inning that propelled Omaha to a 9-6 win over Salt Lake Monday night in the last of a four-game visit to Spring Mobile Ballpark. The Storm Chasers improved to 67-55 and held on to their four-game lead over victorious Memphis in the American Conference North Division.

Joaquin Arias opened the decisive frame with a walk but was thrown out at second base on Jarrod Dyson's attempted sacrifice bunt. Irving Falu, who was 4-for-4, was hit by a pitch and the runners then pulled off a double steal. In a 5-5 game against a drawn-in infield, Dyson scored the go-ahead run on a Lorenzo Cain ground out before Clint Robinson's single pushed Falu across with an insurance run. Ka'aihue followed with his long ball, the 62nd of his career with Omaha to move into fifth place on the franchise's all-time list, to sew up the victory.

Naturals fall in series finale Monday
departed after the fourth, allowing three runs on four hits while recording three walks and three strikeouts. Andrew Dobies took over for the Naturals in the home half of the fifth, working around three hits to toss a scoreless inning.

ROCKS FALL IN FREDERICK YET AGAIN
Melville pitched almost as well after the Machado long ball. He retired seven in a row at one point, and 16 of his final 18 batters faced overall. He left after six frames having surrendered two runs on three hits while whiffing three and walking two.

Allen Caldwell replaced Melville in the seventh, and made his first mistake of the season. Caldwell allowed a one-run solo shot to Brian Ward to put the Keys on top, 3-0. He had not surrendered an earned run with the Rocks before Monday.
              Pimentel starts tonight.

Kane County completes sweep with 7-4 win over Kernels
Kane County starting pitcher Santiago Garrido picked up his second win of the season, tossing six innings and giving up seven hits and three earned runs.

Cheslor Cuthbert gave the Cougars an early 2-0 lead, ripping a single to right-centerfield off of Kernels starter La Tempa
Burlington had the day off Graffeo to start tonight.

Mustangs Miscues Lead to 13-2 Chukars Win
Tony Cingrani and Aaron Brooks entered the game as two of the best pitchers in the Pioneer League, and for the most part the duo lived up to the billing. Cingrani showed both great control and stuff as the left-hander pitched four innings and struck out 9 batters. Brooks meanwhile went six innings and gave up just two runs on eight hits.
              ............................
Brooks (5-1) earned the win for the Chukars the same day he was named Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week

TACOMA, Wash. - Storm Chasers reliever Jesse Chavez hadn't been called upon to record a save since August 3, but he came out of the bullpen firing in picking up his team-leading 15th save Tuesday night at Cheney Stadium. • Chasers get a winning jolt from Navarro's ninth inning long ball
Tacoma, WA - Yamaico Navarro's three-run home run in the ninth inning lifted Omaha to an improbable 4-2 come-from-behind win over Tacoma Wednesday night in the second of a four-game set at Cheney Stadium. The Storm Chasers improved to 69-55 and lengthened their lead to five games over Memphis in the American Conference North Division.

Trailing 2-1 after Tacoma had scored in the home eighth, the Chasers got back-to-back singles from Irving Falu and Lorenzo Cain to begin the decisive frame. Rainiers reliever Scott Patterson battled back to strike out Clint Robinson and Kila Ka'aihue and was one strike away from doing the same to Navarro before the shortstop drilled a line drive that cleared left field wall to dramatically alter the contest with his first three runs driven in wearing an Omaha uniform.

After giving up a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth, Kelvin Herrera struck out the next three hitters to preserve the victory, the fourth in six games for the Storm Chasers on their eight-game road trip.

                  Relentless bat parade crashes 'Riders
Meanwhile, Naturals' starter Chris Dwyer (7-10) cruised right along, going 6 2/3 innings and limiting Frisco to just five hits and two runs. He issued just one walk and fanned eight.
The unrelenting Naturals offense plated two more runs in the sixth off sidearming lefty Corey Young. Seratelli struck again with an RBI single and Wil Myers added an RBI single. In the seventh, up 10-2, the Naturals took Young to further task, as Jamie Romak had an RBI double down the left field line which scored Christian Colon, who had doubled with two out. Amazingly, Colon's double represented the Naturals' first extra-base hit. After Romak came Seratelli, who made the fifth of his five hits a double, plating a pair as the Naturals took a 13-2 lead into the eighth.

The Naturals ended up flushing four relievers out of Frisco's pen as one inning later they tried sidewinding righty Johan Yan, their fifth pitcher of the affair overall. Yan hadn't allowed a run in his first 18 Texas League innings, but the Naturals tacked one on him for his 19th, as Rey Navarro drove in a run on an RBI groundout with runners on second and third.

In addition to Seratelli's banner night, several other Naturals had multi-hit efforts as Romak went 3-for-5, Derrick Robinson, Christian Colon, Wil Myers, and Rey Navarro each had two hits, and Matt Treanor, Myers, and Navarro each drove in two runs.
I really do think Seratelli could end up being quite the Major League utility player. Odorizzi pitches tonight.

                  ROCKS SWEPT AWAY IN FREDERICK
Yem Prades went 1-for-4 in the setback. The outfielder extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a linedrive single up the middle in the third. Prades has batted .302 (13-for-43) during what is the longest active hitting streak in the CL.

John Whittleman drew his league-leading 72nd walk of the season on Wednesday. It is the most free passes drawn by a Blue Rock since Josh Johnson worked 85 walks with Wilmington in 2008. It was his first intentional free pass of the season, and only the sixth for a Blue Rock in 2011.

Sample turned in his longest start since July 10, allowing three runs in 6.1 innings pitched. The right-hander has now turned in two consecutive quality starts. He has just four since May 20.

Royals Struggle Late, Fall to Blue Jays
Lane Adams led the game off with a home run in the first inning, going deep to left for the fourth time this season. The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the sixth, where the visitors would lose the lead. An error from Justin Trapp and a single brought in two runs, giving the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead. In Bluefield's next at bat, they were able to tally five runs, including two on a triple from Kevin Pillar.

Adams' homer was his only hit of the night, going 1-for-4, and was one of five players who combined for the Royals' six hits. Adrian Bringas went 2-for-4, while Murray Watts was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Christopher Hawkins was 3-for-4 for Bluefield, knocking in two runs. Pillar's triple was one of his two hits, and part of a 2-for-3 game.

Eric Cantrell made a solid start for Burlington, throwing five innings, scattering three hits and a walk while striking out five. In an inning and a third, Pizziconi allowed four runs, though only one earned, on two hits. The native of Italy walked two batters, and recorded two strikeouts. David Middendorf surrendered three unearned runs, while giving up three hits and striking out four in an inning and two thirds of work

Peacock Soars as Chukars Win 5-1
Playing the role of ace pitcher on Tuesday was the lefty Brian Peacock, who actually got off to a rough start as he gave up a leadoff, solo home run to Bryson Smith to start the game and put the Mustangs up 1-0. That would be all Billings would muster off the Chukars hurler however, as Peacock would toss a total of six innings allowing just the one run on three hits while striking out nine.

Naturals outlast late rally by Frisco
Those longballs provided the only scoring Frisco would do against Naturals' starter Jake Odorizzi, who continues to be somewhat haunted by rising home run ratios in Double-A. Nevertheless, outside of those two hits, he was quite solid, going five frames and allowing six hits. Frisco drew just one walk against the right-hander and Odorizzi fanned seven, which tied a Double-A high for him in the no-decision
Wil Myers led off that frame with a long drive to left for his sixth homer on the season. Paulo Orlando, who finished the night 3-for-4 with two runs scored, singled sharply up the middle and Mario Lisson also singled to put a pair on with nobody out. Ben Theriot delivered a sac bunt to move both up 90 feet before Derrick Robinson's RBI single got the Naturals to within a run. Christian Colon followed with a sacrifice fly to tie it.

As Antonio winds down his second year as a pro, he's trying to recapture his early-season success and finish strong. He batted .320 over his first 20 games but saw his average dip to .278 after a recent 0-for-17 slump, something that openly bothered him. But he said he's learned from the experience.

"It happens," he said. "The difference between a Major Leaguer and a Minor Leaguer is a mentality."

Antonio has shown some pop out of the third spot in the Burlington batting order, clubbing seven home runs with 31 RBIs in 44 games.

"Great bat speed," Burlington manager Nelson Liriano said of Antonio. "He's aggressive. He's ready to hit every pitch. He has to continue to improve his discipline."

Antonio, who has 18 strikeouts and 14 walks in 169 at-bats, also ranks as one of the youngest players on the team at age 19. He said he's grown up considerably this year, dealing with the death of a great-grandmother prior to the season and again being away from his family.

"This is the toughest year for me," Antonio said. "This is my job, and I have to handle it. ... [I need] to just go out there and have fun. That's what I know to do."

                      • Storm Chasers Strike in Ninth to Down Rainiers
Tacoma, WA - Lorenzo Cain's two-run double in the ninth inning helped Omaha steal away with a 3-1 win over Tacoma Friday night to complete a four-game series sweep at Cheney Stadium. The Storm Chasers won their fifth straight to finish an eight-game road trip with six wins and a five-game edge over Memphis in the American Conference North Division.

Clint Robinson led off the second inning with an opposite field home run to left, his 20th of the season, to give the visitors the early lead before Michael Saunders doubled home Mike Wilson in the home fourth to even the count

Montgomery (5-8) wound up working six scoreless innings after the troublesome first, allowing just two hits and a walk the rest of the way. He struck out six batters, throwing 74 of his 109 pitches for strikes. The Storm Chasers were unable to provide much offense, however, stranding 12 runners on base and squandering numerous scoring opportunities

Lorenzo Cain went after the first pitch from reliever Daniel Meadows (0-2), lining it up the middle for the go-ahead single to put Omaha up 2-1. Southpaw Randy Flores was then summoned to face Robinson, who cranked a towering shot to right for a three-run home run to make it a 5-1 lead for the Storm Chasers

Northwest Arkansas (30-25, 65-57) was getting great pitching for the first six frames as starter Jeremy Jeffress kept Midland off the board for the first four innings. He ended up lasting 4 1/3 on a limited pitch count, and allowed just one run when he loaded the bases with one out in the fifth on two walks around a single by Sulentic. Reliever Andrew Dobies fanned Parker for the second out of the frame but issued a bases-loaded walk to Spina to tie the game at one

                        ROCKS TAKE TWO FROM SALEM
Wilmington starter Michael Mariot repeatedly worked his way out of tight spots. The right-hander allowed a base runner in all five of his frames on the mound and stranded a runner on base in four of those innings. Mariot (8-3) left a man at second in both the second and third innings, used a double play to get out of the fourth and stranded runners at the corners in his last inning on the mound.
The early offense was more than enough for Tim Melville (9-9) who allowed just two Salem scores (one earned) in strong innings pitched. The right-hander fanned seven and walked only one on his way to the win.
                        ROCKS SWEEP SECOND STRAIGHT DOUBLEHEADER
Wilmington starter Justin Marks had to settle in after a rough start. Marks was greeted by back-to-back singles to start the game. That was followed one-out later by a two-run double to left off the bat of Brentz.

The left-hander then had to pitch his way around a pair of free passes in the second. Marks worked four full counts in the frame, but managed to keep the Sox from scoring any runs. He settled in and fanned three over the next two innings, but his day ended after just four frames.
Pimentel (6-7) was magnificent on the other side of the ball. The right-hander strung together six scoreless frames, striking out six and walking only one. Salem managed just one true threat against him, putting together a pair of two-out hits in the third. With runners at the corners, Pimentel punched out Vitek to squash the rally.

Luke Stewart doubled to center, scoring Lawley, and making it 1-0 Kingsport. The game would remain scoreless until the top of the seventh inning, when the Royals would tie the game. Justin Trapp led off Burlington's half with a walk, before stealing second base. Michael Antonio would bunt Trapp to third on a sacrifice, and two batters later, Jorge Bonifacio doubled to left, scoring the Royals' second baseman from third, tying the game at one.

In the Royals' next at bat, Lane Adams hit his fifth home run of the season. The solo shot to left gave the visitors a two run spread. The long balls would continue in the fourth when Watts led off the inning with his 15th home run of the season. The next batter, Jorge Bonifacio went deep to left for his sixth homer of the year. • Storm Chasers Salvage Series Split
Omaha starter Sean O'Sullivan (8-2) worked seven dominant innings to earn the victory, his sixth win in his last six starts. He allowed six hits, struck out a season-high eight and did not walk a batter, throwing 70 of his 100 pitches for strikes.

O'Sullivan got some help along the way from his offense, namely the top third of the order. Jarrod Dyson went 3-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored, David Lough went 1-for-1 with a sacrifice fly and two sacrifice bunts, and Lorenzo Cain drilled a three-run homer, walked twice and stole his 14th base of the season. Cain's home run was his 16th long ball of the season.

Odorizzi departed after the sixth, allowing four runs on eight hits. The 21-year-old displayed impressive control over the course of his start, striking out five Cardinals without walking a batter. Southpaw Brendan Lafferty (2-0) worked around two hits and two walks in tossing a pair of scoreless innings, earning the win in relief.

Robinson's stolen base was his league-best 48th of the season. The outfielder needs just two more thefts to match his total from last season, when he also led the circuit

The first five men reached to chase Sample in the fourth. He got the hook with the bases loaded after Steve Souza walked with the bases full and Leon singled in a second tally. Dusty Odenbach entered only to walk Zach Walters for a 9-1 margin. Otherwise, Odenbach enjoyed a solid night. He posted four scoreless innings with four strikeouts while the Blue Rocks' offense remained dormant.
