  • Ricky Torres 6'3 PG 2018 JUCO a Shocker!

It appears the Shockers are showing heavy interest in 6'3 point guard Ricky Torres from Missouri State-Western Plains junior college. Ricky averaged 17 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds for the Grizzlies.

We are starting to look desperate. Opposition is so weak on that video it's hard to evaluate

His league that he played in has traditionally been pretty good.

The timing and situation of all this makes it desperate. There are 5 four star PGs unsigned and all are ranked above Lomax. As we were hoping with AL, any of these may be able to take over day one, assuming LS leaves. Heck, 5 star Trae Young was the 4th ranked PG in his class and he had a senior and 3 juniors in their next top 6 players. The next unsigned PG below Lomax is 3 star Alvarez and a group of unsigned PGs that are likely not ready to take the reins immediately.

That leads to looking at remaining JuCo PGs, who as we know, may or may not be a help in year one. However, they are older and played against stronger opponents.

The advantage to this guy is that he is 6'3 and shoots 43% from the 3 Pt. Line so he can play either guard.

Not sure that the things you mentioned are what we need the most at PG right now.

I haven't seen him play and video is a poor way to evaluate. I'm strictly going from stats but his assist rate is dandy too. He wasn't as highly rated as the other juco PG that we are recruiting but recruiting gurus don't know everything. He does have multiple skills, again, judging from his statistics.

We will sign at least two guards and they will be quicker than what we got now.

Ricky just picked up an offer from Wichita State. Looks like Donnie Jones is the lead on this one.

Offers from SMU, Oregon State, and DePaul (at a minimum based on Twitter). Interest from Gonzaga, VCU, Virginia Tech. He seems to really like Virginia Tech.

Not desperate, as we first scouted him back in February and he looks to be a very fine player.

“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

Can't we get a little past the sophmoric, dramatic school girl responses. It's not time to panic yet.

Our point guard is going to the NBA, our backup PG graduated, our third option at PG can't play in front of more than 300 people. Our incoming PG backed out of his commitment. Right now we have Reaves (I'm a big fan but that ain't his best position) and nothing else. You figure it out.
