  • 2010-11 WBB Roster

I see that next year's roster is now sitting at 13 players.

Sheena leaving was announced and that is a significant loss.

Also Dannah Kemp is no longer on the roster. This may have been announced, but if so I missed that. Dannah did not play a lot last year and with the addition of Alicia Sanchez and Heather Robben to the mix this year she was probably looking at even less PT.

The roster still remains on the very young side with the following mix:
    1 Senior: Morgan Boyd
3 Juniors: Haleigh Lankster, Heather Robben and Alicia Sanchez
4 Sophs: Jessica Diamond, Jazimen Gordon, Michelle Price and Chynna Turner
5 Freshman: Krystle Henderson, Breanna Dawkins, Jackie Patterson, Kelsey Jacobs and Shannika Bryant

Our Sophs as a group are more experienced than most sophomore classes with a good amount of PT last year, although I thought Chynna digressed at the end of last year. I'm hoping Coach Gordon will be able to re-energize and motivate Chynna this year. Jaz and Michelle showed a lot of improvement last year. Jessica is probably our go to player when we need a basket.

Morgan Boyd was pretty inconsistent last year. If she let's the game come to her and uses good judgement in her shot selection she can be a very solid player.

Haleigh may have wore down a bit last year, but I think she is ready for a strong Junior year. She needs to cut down on her fouling. Heather and Alicia both had a lot of team success at the JUCO level and both shot the ball very well from behind the arc (43.5% and 41% respectively). How that will transfer to D-1 ball remains to be seen.

The Freshman class looks pretty good on paper, but unfortnately the games aren't played on paper. I wonder if we will see one or two redshirts for this class.

It was good to see Wichita get the opportunity to host 1st and 2nd round NCAA games this year, but I'm not sure the Shocks are quite ready to get to the NCAA this year. But you never know. With the MVC being a 1-bid league it all boils down to the MVC Tournament.
