  • Shocks vs UAPB

Shocks finish the non-conference portion of their schedule at 8-3 with a 68-56 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-9).

Probably the best game of the year for our interior players with Chynna leading the wayt with 17 points on 6-12 FG's +3-3 FT's and 8 rebounds while Jazimen added a double-double with 10 points on 5-6 shooting and 10 rebounds. It appears that Jazimen is making some good strides.

Haleigh added 16 points although she was only 3-10 from the field but was 10-11 from the line which indicates she wasn't just content to stay on the perimeter and shoot threes. She took only 2 treys and missed both. Haleigh also added 7 rebounds.

5'2" Marisah Henderson also had 10 rebounds.

The Shocks lead by 21 early in the 2nd half. UAPB whittled that down to 9 with about 7 minutes left but the Shocks responded to push it back to 16 with about 3 minutes left and coasted to the win.

On the negative side Morgan was on 1-7 from the field and Jessica was
0-4 from the field. Also the Shocks had 27 turnovers lead by Marisah with 9 and Morgan with 4. That is way too many and needs to get cleaned up.

Will be interesting to see how the Shocks fare in the MVC. No doubt that will continue to be a learning experience for this young team.

She almost had a double-double, but in a bad way. One more turnover would have given her 10 turnovers to go along with her 10 rebounds. She does do good on assists though, but can't seem to keep her turnovers in check.

      TO's

I've only been to one game so far - the one where the 8000 kids showed up. WSU didn't have much of a TO problem in that game. 27 TO's last night is a lot, but sometimes it's not always the passers fault when a TO occurs. I'd have had to have seen it to be other to analyze what happened. I do know that WSU had a lot more success working the ball inside which was a goal of theirs.

I coached a lot of soccer in my life - probably around 200 games, & I think the same principle applies in that sport as in basketball. The passer and the receiver - whether it be soccer or basketball need to have eye contact before the pass is made for most passes. You see football QB's throw a ball to a spot when a receiver is running a certain route & he may not turn his head until the last moment long after the ball has been thrown. Soccer and basketball don't involve receivers running preconceived routes though.
