  • well, since we have no coach yet.....

... i guess any number of scenarios are at work:
    * it's only been 2 weeks...logical...
*the new coach is still playing...possible...
    * no possible way to interview everyone yet..probable..

    interesting times ahead....

I think Jim Schaus thought he had his man lined up in his sights.

Then Jim Littell threw Schaus a curveball when he was sitting on a fastball and buckled his knees.

Jim Schaus has had to regroup and implement Plan B.

At this point, a big splash hire is probably not in the cards. Perhaps that is best as the last big splash hire ended up sinking like a rock.

At this point it is anyone's guess what Jim has up his sleeve, but I think he will find an interesting candidate to take the position.

Question to Doc: are you implying that we have already been spurned by a number of candidates?

There are some good candidates out there I believe.

Some names that have been mentioned on this forum include:

              From the Division II Ranks:

Ron McHenry - Head Coach Washburn University: Ron's team still playing. They face South Dakota State tomorrow night in the NCAA D-II elite eight. 214-43 (so far) in 8 seasons for a 0.833 winning percentage and that includes a 13-14 record in his 1st season. His average record over the last 7 seasons is 29-4 including 35-2 and the school's only NCAA D-II National Chamipionship in 2004-2005. That season was followed up by a 32-1 record with the only loss a 2-pointer to Emporia State in the NCAA D-II regional final which broke a 51 game winning streak.

Brandon Schneider - Head Coach Emporia State (10 Years) - Emporia State just finished its season last week with a loss to Washburn in the D-II regional finals at Canyon Texas. 250-61 (0.804) at Emporia State with only one season below 20 wins (16-12 in 2001-02). As a recruiter, Schneider has attracted six NJCAA All-Americans and four high school All-Americans to ESU. Schneider has developed a reputation for player development during his time in Emporia. Both of Emporia State’s national players of the year have come from small town Kansas communities and
grown during their time at ESU. He has coached seven future professional players.

Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

Kelly Bond with Texas A&M (9 years experience - 5 at A&M where she was recently promoted to Associate Head Coach)

OU is a #4 seed and Texas A&M is a #2 seed in the Women's Big Dance this year. OU plays Notre Dame in the second round tonight and Texas A&M is already through to the Sweet 16. Both teams could easily be playing for another week or two.

I'm sure there are a number of other good candidates on Jim's list but these 4 all look like solid candidates. Whether there is any interest or not on their part I don't know. McHenry and Schneider both seem to be very well entrenched at Washburn and Emporia.

Doc sounds defeated and he has much more insided knowledge about things at WSU then I do which worries me. I'm hoping Doc is just being a little impatient.

Considering that a new coach would want some spring recruiting for next year, it would seem that an announcement would have to be made in the very near future, like this week, in order to give the new coach some recruiting time before spring signing time, which starts April 15th.

Good point, but I would think any Spring singings at this point will be problematic for whoever is hired as the new Coach.

Perhaps, the main challenge for the new Coach will be to retain the two signed recruits we have in hand (for now).

                          '72,

Your points are all valid. While I have been known to hear a rumor or 2 out of the department, my knowledge of the wbb situation is essentially nil. In fact, my closest contact (feel free to PM) either lied or totally misled me as to the demise of Jane so I wouldn't look to me for much of anything.

My comment was much more a combination of frustration and tongue in cheek and depression for a program that has so much potential and so little results.

How bout the coach at ORU? Seems like his program is good every year.
Because Denny Crane says so Dammit!

I don't know if ORU views us as a step up like we do. (ref: Scott Sutton)
