They're not enjoying much anywhere this season.

The Shocks were more competitive in the 2nd but never really made a serious run and the outcome was never in doubt as Creighton cruised to a 91-63 win. Not sure how hard Creighton played in the 2nd half. No reason to really extend themselves with another game tomorrow.

The Shocks actually shot the ball decently for them hitting 24/51 (47.1%) but only made 2-12 on three pointers. The Shocks were good at the free throw line hitting 13-15 (86.7%) which has been an issue this year. But Creighton was 32/62 (51.6%) from the field including 8-26 (30.8%) from three and made 19- (86.4%) from the line. Creighton outrebounded the Shocks 34-25. The Shocks turned it over 20 times to only 11 for Creighton.

Jayla Murray 16 points on 7-10/0-1/2-2, Salese Blow 14 points on 6-12/1-2/1-1 plus 4 assists, and Jasmine Peaks with 10 points on 4-5/0-0/2-2 and also had 4 assists all had pretty solid games.

The Shocks will play Missouri, a 59-82 loser to Syracuse, tomorrow at 5:00 pm. The Shocks should have a chance in that one I think.

None of the games today in this event were close. Clemson beat UAB 90-52 and Alabama beat Alabama State 83-33 in the other 4 team pod.

Maybe we should have a chance, but we aren't going to. On pace to give up a hunskie after one quarter, 26-15. We can't play defense or rebound. We have exactly 0 defensive rebounds.

            ZERO.

Missouri 85 - Wichita State 57 matching the 28-point margin of loss against Creighton.

I had the Shocks finishing 4-8 in their 12 D-1 non-con games and they look to be right on track. Although, I thought (or at least hoped) they would be a bit more competitive. Probably have a couple of built-in wins with Prairie View, next on the docket, and Cal State - Bakersfield in 3 weeks. Whether or not they can find a 4th non-con win would seem to be somewhat questionable at this point.

This inaugural Women's Emerald Coast Classic hasn't exactly been very classic. The average winning margin in the first 7 games has been 38 points. The closest game has been the Syracuse 23-point win over Missouri. The Syracuse-Creighton game has the potential to be more much more competitive.

Update: I continue to prove I know very little. Creighton beat Syracuse 86-59, a 27 point beatdown.

Makes you wonder whether this particular event, at least for women, may be one-and-done.

WBB Preview: vs. Prairie View A&M (Dec. 2)

PRAIRIE VIEW A&M (0-3) vs. WICHITA STATE (1-5) - Records reflect D-1 games only
                Monday, Dec. 2, 2024 | 6:00 p.m. CT
Wichita, Kan. | Charles Koch Arena
TV: ESPN+ with Shane Dennis and Tracy Anderson
                Radio: GoShockers.com/Listen with Pat Strathman

                SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Prairie View A&M is coming off three-straight losses to Incarnate Word (49-68), Washington (50-65) and Georgia (62-79).

Prairie View A&M was picked sixth of 12 teams in the SWAC Preseason Poll. Their NET ranking is 280 with an RPI ranking of 302.

The Panthers rank seventh in the NCAA in bench points per game (37.8), leading the SWAC, and also rank No. 1 in the SWAC in field goal percentage (43.5) and three point percentage (36.1).

Two Panters are averaging double figures through the first five games with freshman CJ Wilson averaging 11.8 and Crystal Schultz scoring 10.2 per game. Amauri Williams is the team's leading rebounder with 5.0 per game, and she is also averaging 9.8 points per game.

The Shockers initial NET ranking for the 2024-25 season is 274 and their RPI is 243.

This is game that the Shockers normally would be pretty confident of winning. However the View hung in reasonably well against Washington and Georgia so I think the Shocks will have to do more than just show up. The View may be looking at this game and their game in two weeks vs Western Michigan as their best shots of picking up a D-1 win in the non-con portion of their schedule.

WarrenNolan.com predicts a Shocker win although I would not use this site as a source for placing any bets.

With about 2 minutes left in the first quarter an and-1 by Bre-yon White put the Shocks up 10-8 and they never trailed again as they cruised to a 74-45 win over the Women of the View.

The Shocks shot 42% from the field vs 27% for the View. Neither team was very good on 3-pointers with the Shocks hitting 3-14 and and PV hitting 4-14. Both teams shot 75% from the free throw line but the Shocks had 20 attempts to only 12 for PV. The Shocks had there best rebounding game of the season with a 49-34 advantage.

The Shocks outscored PV 23-9 on fast break points and 38-18 on points in the paint.

Jayla Murray with 17 points on 8-14 shooting plus 6 rebounds and Princess Anderson with 17 points on 7-13 shooting plus 5 rebounds, and Salese Blow with 13 points including 7-9 from the free throw line plus 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

This team's psyche not doubt needed that win. What does it mean moving forward? Not sure, but up next is KU in Lawrence so will find out then.

Looks like KU goes about 8 deep. Their starters go 5-7, 5-11, 6-0, 6-3, 6-3 and the primary reserves go 5-7, 6-0 and 6-4.

For the Shockers 5-5 Taylor Jameson, 5-10 Salese Blow, 6-0 Ornella Niankan and 6-0 Jayla Murray have started all 7 Shocker games. The 5h starter will probably be 6-6 Aicha Ndour. The Shocks primary reserves are 5-4 KP Parr, 5-6 Jasmine Peaks, 5-7 Princess Anderson, 6-0 Bre'yon White, 6-0 Jordan Jackosn and 6-4 Ella Anciaux.

While Aicha and Ella will be the two biggest players on the floor they have limited athleticism and skill sets that offset the pure size advantage.

The Shockers are currently ranked jim schaus's great hires.... in the NET.

Not sure who is the bigger underdog tonight. Shocker WBB at KU or Shocker VB at SMU. Both will need to play their best game/match of the season to have any chance at an upset and probably hope KU and SMU have a bit of an off night.

The Lady Shocks are off to a strong start at Lawrence as they are leading 23-18 with 7:20 to play in the first half. The Shocks are shooting 56.3% from the field hitting 9-16 shots so far including a really good 4-8 on 3-pointers. Not sure they can sustain that kind of shooting but if they do they have a chance in this game.

Taylor Jameson has hit 3 of her 4 3-pointers attempts with all 3 makes coming in the first 2 minutes of the 2nd quarter. I imagine KU will try to take that away.

Shockers cool off and finish the half shooting 12-27 (41%) from the field and 4-13 (31%) on treys as KU hit a second chance layup at the buzzer to tie it up at 33-all. The Shocks hurt themselves at the free throw line hitting only 5-11 attempts. They also turned it over 11 times to only 6 for KU. The Shocks did outrebound the Jayhawks 22-15.

After a slow start to the 2nd half the Shocks work their way back to a 49-46 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Need to keep it going for another 10 minutes.

KU worked it way back into the lead at 61-58 with 2:30 left in the game and then closed out the Shocks with a 9-2 run that included 7-8 free throw attempts and with the Shock final points coming on 2 free throws by Jayla Murray with 2:10 remaining in the game. The Shocks just ran out juice I guess.

                        KU 70 - WSU 60

Princess Anderson with 16 points and Taylor Jameson with 13 points. Taylor had 4 turnovers which is a big unusual for her.

KU outscored the Shocks by 9 at the free throw line hitting 21-30 vs the Shocks 12-23. Perhaps the real issue that the Shocks just could not overcome was they had 21 turnovers to 10 for Kansas and Kansas outscored the Shocks 28-3 on points off/after turnovers.

Still this game boiled down to which team could finish stronger and that was KU.

The Shocks played pretty well against Prairie View but sometimes it hard to evaluate those kind of games but after watching the KU game I think the Lady Shocks are showing some improvement.

I think they play pretty solid defense. The rebounding has improved. After OU, Creighton and Missouri outrebounded the Shocks by 14, 9 and 22 the Shocks outrebounded KU by 42-37. We'll see if that can be sustained.

The perimeter shooting continues to be an achilles heel for this team. The Shocks are 42-157 (26.8%). So they may be susceptible to teams packing it in against them. The free throw shooting has been inconsistent. In their top 5 games from the line the are 67-89 (75.3%). In the other 4 games they are 39-82 (47.6%). Overall they are shooting 62% from the line.

Individually, I see improved play from Jayla and Princess and, to a lesser extent from Bre, Aicha and Ella.

Earlier in the year Princess was just totally out-of-control and hunting her shots. After only getting a total of 12 minutes of PT against Missouri State, St. Thomas, Oklahoma, Creighton and Missouri she got her shot against Prairie View and played very well and followed that up with another solid game against KU as she led the Shocks in scoring in both game with 17 and 16 points, respectively. She still gets out of control every now and then but Coach Nooner apparently was able to get her attention and understand what he is looking for. She is very quick and has a good motor and is finding she can get to the basket at this level. Hopefully, she continues to improve.

My hope for the Shockers being competitive in AAC play has jumped a bit after the last 2 games. We'll see if the can validate that Sunday at home against a 6-0 Western Kentucky team who sits at No. 72 in the NET rankings and at No. 37 in the RPI ranking and then on the road a week later at Loyola Marymount who sit at No. 139 in the NET ranking and No. 59 in the RPI. These are two teams that are probably comparable to what they will see in the AAC this year
