    RH: Shockers Force 28 Turnovers

On Monday, the Shockers looked like a team that can run and run some more. They handled NCAA Division II Missouri Southern State 80-33 in an exhibition at Koch Arena. They swarmed and ran and swarmed and ran some more in the first quarter on their way to a 21-3 lead in a preview of how Adams wants her team to look all season.

"Our defense has got to set the tone for us," Adams said. "It created a lot of offense for us in transition."

Wichita State's ability to swarm on defense and run on offense started over the summer with mini-triathlons in the Heskett Center.

Five miles on an exercise bike. A mile-and-a-half on the track. Eight-hundred meters in the swimming pool.

With Sabrina gone, the inside play looks to be worse than last year. Raven still cannot hit a bunny from two feet.

But the play of the 1-2-3 positions does look some better than last year.

Raven is a pretty good rebounder and when she does score it is mostly right around the basket. Opponents are much better off fouling her than letting her shoot those bunnies. But she is not a strong offensive player. I think Shyia is a better all-around player even if we do give up a couple of inches vs Raven.

I agree and should have said that. She just has to develop something to get a shot in the basket from close in.

Yes. she is a very good offensive rebounder. Most of her scoring opportunities will probably come from offensive rebound put backs and from the free throw line as she went to the line more than any other Shocker last year. If she can finish and hit a decent free throw percentage she can be pretty valuable.
