A much better start for Bailey. Three-up, three down. Sydney led off the Shocker first with a bunt single but was later called Out for leaving early. No score after one.

Butters walked in the Shocker second and Ryleigh reached on an error, but Lauren grounded into a DP to end the inning. Still no score.

Six-up, six-down in the third. No offense allowed so far.

Bailey allows her first baserunners and first run in the fourth, Single, wild pitch, groundout, single.

In the fifth, the Panthers score another run. Single to right advancing to third on an error and a double. Another single moves runners to second and third, but Bailey gets two strikeouts and a runner leaves early to end the inning.

The Shocks tie the game in their half of the fifth. Asea walks and Ryleigh follows with a triple, the first hit for the Shockers. She scores on a throwing error by the catcher after there is no play at the plate on Asea. 2-2 after five.

Pitt retakes the lead in the sixth. Walk, error, rbi-single, hit batter, bases-loaded walk. Sydney's leadoff single leads to nothing for the Shockers. 4-2 after six complete.

Erin is on to pitch the seventh. She allows a single but no runs.

The Shockers build a threat in the bottom of the seventh. Asea singles, Lauren draws a one-out walk and Bailee singles to load the bases, her first hit of the season. Neleigh lines out and Asea is thrown out at home on a ball in the dirt/against the backstop. Ball game. A second base-running error by Asea?

      Pitt 4-2 Shockers

Bailey pitched reasonably well (three earned runs, six hits, two walks, hit batter, five strikeouts) although Pitt is not one of the stronger teams here based on the results. The offense remains sub-par. Ryleigh had the lone RBI with her triple, the only extra-base hit among the four hits by the Shocks.

        Game Four

        Shockers at Charleston

        The lineup is:

        2b Sydney
        cf Asea
        c Butters
        dp Lauren
        3b Ryleigh
        1b Neleigh
        rf Bailey
        ss Laurie
        lf Wylie
        p Caitlin

Ouch! Bailey and Laurie. And Bailee is sitting. Hottest bats at the top of the lineup.

Summer Jenkins, their apparent #2, is in the circle for the Cougars.

In the first, there is no follow-up to a two-out single by Butters. Likewise, a one-out double leads to naught for Charleston.

Wylie has a single in the Shocker third, and the Cougars also get a single. Nothing much happening. 0-0 after three.

Lauren hits a solo shot in the fourth to get the Shockers on the board. Charleston loads the bases with one out on a walk, single and infield single. After a strikeout, a triple clears the bases. A wild pitch before an inning-ending strikeout plates another run. Cougars, 4-1 after four.

In the fifth, Wylie has a one-out bunt single and Asea singles with two out, but Butters can't deliver. Still 4-1 after five.

Lauren is hit by a pitch to start the sixth, but nothing helpful follows. Berouty, the Cougar ace, came on in relief after Lauren was hit. Singles the last two innings for Charleston, but no runs. 4-1 as we go to the seventh.

The inning begins with Laurie reaching on an error and Wylie singling, but three outs follow.

        Shockers 1-4 Charleston

Again the offense was missing. Wylie had three singles and Lauren had a homer, but the Shocks could not string enough of their seven hits together. Through the four games, Bailey is hitless and Bailee and Laurie have only one hit (although Laurie has three walks).

Caitlin gave up the big triple and four earned runs on seven hits and two walks. She had six strikeouts.

        Records after two days:

        4-0 Virginia Tech
        3-1 Charleston
        2-2 Purdue
        1-3 Pitt
        1-3 Shockers
        1-3 Central Michigan

Certainly a disappointing start for the Shocks. Are we missing the leadership and play la Kenzie Wright?

Missing some timely hitting for sure. To now, the Shocks have 32 runners LOB vs 17 for their opponents.

2-2 in the 3rd vs Pitt this morning. Shocks had 1st and 2nd nobody out in the top of the 3rd but didn't get anyone home. 6 LOB so far today after 3 at bats.

Butters goes yard to give the Shocks a 4-2 lead top 4. Freshman Lauren Mills replaces freshman Adeline Reese and promptly singles. Ryleigh trying to extend the good inning.

Buck walks to put runners on 1st and 2nd but Laurie flies out to leave them stranded. Still, Shocks go ahead 4-2. Pitt coming up in the bottom of the 4th. Caitlin has struck out 6 so far in 3 but a double and a homer stung her in the 2nd.

Caitlin strikes out the Pitt side in the bottom of the 4th, sandwiched around a walk, single and SB, but no damage done. 4-2 good gals top 5.

Senior Mauriana Jamele in for So. Neleigh Herring and like Lauren earlier, promptly singles to lead off the 5th. She moves to 2nd on Bailey's groundout. So Wylie Glover gets an infield single and it's 1st and 3rd with 1 out, make that 2nd and 3rd as Glover steals 2nd, and the top of the order looming. Fr transfer from Missouri Sydney McKinney reaches on a fielders choice and gets to 2nd as Glover is out at 3rd. No run scores. 2nd and 3rd now 2 outs. Sr. Asea Webber strikes out looking on an 8 pitch at bat to end the inning. 10 left on so far today, Pitt's left 3. 4-2 Shocks in the bottom of the 5th.

Caitlin works an efficient 10 pitch bottom of the 5th, allowing only a 2 out walk, and it's on to the 6th with the Shocks still leading 4-2.

Madison leads off the 6th with a flyout. Freshman Lauren Mills from Topeka singles and is hitting .444 on the young season. Buck eliminates her with a fielders choice groundout but Derrico and Herring both single to load the bases with 2 outs. Bailey Lange so overdue it's not funny (hitless on the year so far) and she comes through with a bases clearing double and advances to 3rd on a throwing error. Glover grounds out to end the inning but the damage is done, 7-2 Shocks.

Caitlin works a clean 11 pitch 6th and a 7 pitch 7th to finish off the Panthers and salvage some dignity in the tourney. 7-2 final. Shocks come home 2-3.

Shocks needed that one. Finally got the big clutch hit to create a good cushion and Caitlyn made it count.

If Bailey can get back to form consistently and Caitlyn can continue to be effective we should no okay but we need for the bats to heat up a bit especially with RISP.
