The Shockers travel to Texas again this weekend, this time to compete in the Texas Invitational, their third tournament of the 2018 season.
The Shocks play #21 Ohio State at 200pm on Friday and play host Texas later that evening with a 730pm scheduled start time.
The opponents Saturday are #20 Michigan with a 1200pm start and Ohio State again at 800pm.
The Shockers close out their tournament with a game against Virginia Tech at 1100am on Sunday.
#21 Ohio State are a member of the Big 10 Conference, a conference not into pre-season team picks or player picks. Shortstop Lilli Piper is one of the fifty players on the Player of the Year watch list. Both Piper and second baseman Emily Clark were First Team All-Big Ten selections last year.
The Buckeyes are 8-1, winning five games at a tournament hosted by Florida Atlantic and were 3-1 this past weekend in the Big 10/ACC Challenge. (A Big 10 team, an ACC team and a third team play a double round-robin at an ACC school.) Three times they rallied in the seventh to send a game into extras at the Challenge, winning two of those games. Feasting on the pitching at the first tournament, they have five players with an OPS greater than 1.00. Morgan Ray and Shelby McCombs share the circle.
Texas are picked to finish third of the seven teams playing softball in the Big 12 Conference. Taylor Ellsworth is a returning First Team All-Big 12 catcher.
The Longhorns opened their season by going 2-2 in a tournament they hosted and 2-2 at Puerto Vallarta. There they lost to two ranked teams but defeated Houston, a member of the AAC. Janae Jefferson has an OPS over 1.30, but no one else is challenging 1.00. Paige von Sprecken has the best pitching stats with Erica Wright close behind in innings pitched. Texas is scheduled to play Washington on Wednesday. The Huskies must be on the quarter system - they run-ruled Lamar (Beaumont, TX) twice on Monday and appear to be on an extended road trip.

The Wolverines are 5-4. They were 3-2 in a tournament hosted by South Florida, another AAC member, their losses being to #2 Florida and USF. They were then 2-2 in their flavor of the Big 10/ACC Challenge. Blanco and Canfield are the two players with an OPS near 1.00 (a little above and just below). Meghan Beaubien has over half of their innings and a WHIP well below 1.00.
Virginia Tech are picked seventh of twelve teams in the ACC. Outfielder Breanna Davenport was a member of the All-ACC Second Team last year.
The Hokies are 6-2, going 4-0 in their instance of the Big 10/ACC Challenge last weekend. They have four players with an OPS above 1.00 or just below. Jordan Dail and Carrie Eberle are their principal pitchers.
For the Shockers, Ryleigh has the highest OPS at .994. Bailey has a WHIP of 1.11 and has pitched sixty percent of the innings.
