Way, way too premature to make any such assessment IMO. Maybe 10 years from now we will look back to the heyday of Shocker VB, but there is just as good a chance that our better days are ahead of us.

Yeah, we've hit a little rough patch right now, but that happens to the best of them from time to time.

This is just a crazy year in volleyball. Look at Stanford or Nebraska's record this year. WSU volleyball will be fine. We have a great (redshirting) class that will start playing next year. I'm not writing off this year's team.

But that's the problem with us hitting the rough patch. BCS teams can do this all the time and not get as near 'penalized' as we will. Now, the only chance for the tourney birth is to win our Conference Tourney Championship. We've been screwed before and now we hit this rough patch, the committee is smiling and breathing the fresh air again.

I agree that we need to win the MVC tourney. I think we can win it, however.

I think it is also too early to assess whehter we need to win the MVC Tourney.

If we win out through the regular season and make it to the MVC Tourney Championship game I think we will be in the NCAA for sure.

I'm not prediciting we will win out to that point, but that should easily secure a spot for the Shocks it it were to happen. A very big IF at this point. But at least we showed the ability to bounce back from adversity wiht the sweep of Drake.

The MVC will likely have two teams goning to the dance. Of course, the best way to do that is to win the tourney.

The Shocks have a very big challenge trying to comeback and pass MSU and UNI by season's end, but it is not an impossible challenge.

Perhaps, but I don't think so. I think 2005 was an aberration, although the further it fades in to the past the more likely it could happen again.

2006 - UNI (28-8/16-2) and MSU (27-9/14-4) make the NCAA. MSU defeated the Shocks (25-7/15-3) in the MVC Tourney semi-finals.

2007 - WSU, MSU, UNI in the NCAA

2008 - WSU, MSU, UNI in the NCAA

2009 - TBD, but I stand by my previous post. In fact, even more so after doing this research.

I think 2006 is the most comparable situation to where we are this season (at least at this point). Plus I think this year's non-conference resume is better than both 2005 and 2006.
