Since admission is free, as part of Shocker Madness, what will we get to count as official attendance. Can we do an actual head count instead of paid attendance? Paid attendance would be whatever season tickets we have sold.

In the past I think they just had the people at the doors with those little clicky counter things and used that as people walked in and counted that as the attendance. Not positive as it's been a few years, but it sounds right in my mind.

Or maybe they just go ahead and pass out tix to those who don't have them and use that as the total...

I suggest the SWAG method to determine attendance. :good:

Anybody else notice that our fans don't quite understand Volleyball... I notice a lot of times the other team will score, but everyone will start cheering, then realize what happended and stop, and that's long after the line judge and ref have signalled who scored. I guess with all the new fans, there's going to be some learning curve.

If we can keep up this run, I see the Volleyball team getting a lot of new fans at the Drake game.

And there were times when the fans didn't realize we scored, like when the ball rolled across the top of the net, hit the aerial and fell on our side. Ball-handling errors and net violoations, too.

Those are the nuances of the game that can take some time to pick up. It will come.

I had previously mentioned that there seemed to be a lot of first-timers around the area I was sitting in due to the attendance of the Girl Scout Troops. They were asking a lot of questions. Nothing wrong with that.

The net violations are probably toughest because of the delay between the action and the call.

The bottom line though is that the newbies seemed to really enjoy the action. I told a couple of them to be sure to come back at least for the UNI match which should be a very, very competitive match. They said they would be attending more matches in the future.

I say the more, the merrier. The understanding of the rules will come and, even if you aren't real knowledgable, the actions is still very entertaining.

If nobody comes to our next 6 home matches, our average attendance would be 1466.
If 10,400 came to each of our next 6 matches, our average attendance would be 6266.
I would rather have a number closer to 6266 than to 1466. If 6000 people came to each of the next 6 matches, we would average 4235 and be in third place (behind Hawaii and Nebraska) in average attendance. Let's do it!!

But is 6K even doable with so much else going on on Friday nights? I would like to think so, but I doubt it would happen. Maybe Saturday games, but not Fridays.

Maybe they need to advertise it as a free ticket to a volleyball, and if you want to stay afterwards, there is going to be basketball scrimmages and stuff.

I look at it this way......1000-1500 of us have already paid for the game. Another 2k ish would normally pay anyway.

6k want to go to the scrimmage......I would guess at LEAST 1/2 of those would pay if they had to....at least.

I do understand the desire to expose more of the fan base to volleyball and a (somewhat) limited opportunity to do that but.....

Why not advertise that to get a good seat you have to buy a volleyball ticket or risk sitting in the nosebleeds?

Make the CU game a $1 night (or the UNI game) because those are games where fan support is important and you still have plenty of season left for the newcomers to return......maybe I'm just all wet.

I really am not one to nickel and dime something so it's not so much the potential lost revenue to me......it just doesn't seem to make sense.

Last year we had two matches with more than 6000 fans. If we have four matches with 6000 fans and two with 3000 fans, we will average 3772 (in fifth place nationally). Surely the UNI match (with 2-1 tickets) will yield 6K fans. Right? Drake (free tickets plus Madness) will too. Right? Creighton? We love to hate Creighton. Evansville is senior night. Can't we get 6000 for an undefeated team?

We can do it. We can't dig the ball or serve but we can support the team by being there and cheering loudly. The UNI match will be very tough and the team could use our vocal support.

When there is a crowd of 4,000+ you have to win. When you come back in a game like tonight people leave and tomorrow they tell people and they come back. Then there is a crowd of 4,500+ so you have to win and people tell others and they come back. Then there is a crowd of 5,000+ and before you know it you can't walk up at 6:00 and get a ticket because it is SOLD OUT. Wow what a come back. 15 to 1 run to close out the 4th set. Has that ever been done by anyone?
First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.
