15-6 in the 5th. Jackie Church was huge in the 5th, digging everything! Great leadership from the senior!
Jackie is the one Shocker who has brought it about every set this year. She is playing at a very high level. If she can keep it up she will have a very memorable Senior year.

Doc, all I can say is whew. I think the best description for this team is funstrating.

Way to tough another one out Ladies. Long gone are the days when the Lady Shocks can sneak up on opponents. We will get everyone's best shot.

Congrats on a tough win. It is a W, move on. Surprised our setter is not getting more attention and press. I think she is one of the best we have ever had. We've had some of the best in the Valley. Chelsey has much more upside to utilize in the next two years. She is very talented, ask our middles.
          GO SHOX!

I'm liking this young lady more and more all the time. She seems to just be a gamer.
Right there with you, Masher is a gamer.

I've been touting Chelsey for 5 years now. She's not quite as consistent in her sets, just yet, but I agree about the upside. I see her as an MVP candidate, in the MVC, for the next 2 years.

I guess you know you been playing a very good schedule when you look at the lack of sweeps not only in the Shocker matches but in the tournaments the Shocks have played in. I think the only sweep in any off the matches played during tournaments the Shocks have been in this year was the Shocks 3-0 win over North Dakota State who will probably win the Summit League this year.

I hope this pays some big dividends once we get into MVC play.

I think Chelsey techique-wise is right on par, if not a little better than Hooper in setting the ball. Whether or not Chelsey is as good of a decision-maker at this point I don't know, that's well above my pay grade. I do think Chelsey has some work to do to match Hoop as a defender off the net and as a server. Chelsey actually has a tougher serve than Hoop but she is terrible inconsistent in getting her serve in. Hoop rarely made a service error and it was amazing how often she was on the line when the Shocks would go on a long service run.

However, as you say the upside is there and I expect her to improve steadily throughout this year as she finally gets to strut her stuff on the court again.

I think a big part of this is those around the program had high expectations for her and nothing she is doing is surprising those people.

Auburn up next at 5:00 on Friday. The Lady Tigers are off to a 7-0 start although they have not played the toughest schedule in the world. http://www.auburntigers.com/sports/w.../teamstat.html

The are a very experienced team as they play mostly Juniors (2), Redshirt Juniors (4) and Seniors (2) plus a freshman setter and a 6-3 sophomore OH.

In looking at their stats looks like they may be running a 6-2 offensive scheme as they have two setters that have played in all 24 sets this year and have comparable stats. 5-7 Jr Chlesea Wintzinger averages 5.96 assists per set and 5-9 Fr Ciara Richards averages 5.58 assists per set.

Auburn will not have a size advantage on the Shocks. The Shocks will have a slight height advantage in the middle and our outsides will be comparable to Auburns in height.

This is a hard match to get a feel for but I believe the Shock's schedule to date has been much tougher than Auburn's and I hope that works in our favor, but Auburn does seem to have an advantage in overall experience.

How so '72? Because the young Shocks didn't sweep SMU on their home court?

I'm sure this will be a season full of hiccups and ups and downs. IMO, that doesn't mean there's more parity out there. The better team still won. Is there anybody in the Top 10 or Top 25 that hasn't been there before? I don't think one set indicates parity.

Glad WSU did hang on for the win. They need to start racking up some W's as much as possible.

                        ... No really, deuces.

Not sure where you come up with this "based on one set" business. No where did I state or even imply that I am basing my opinion about parity on one set. NMSU, NIU and NDS were all solid volleyball teams and there was on 1 sweep in 6 matches in that tournament. CSU, BYU and TN are all very good volleyball teams. No sweeps in the 6 matches in that tournament. Just looking at the scores around the nation you see that the parity is comparable to what we see in men's college basketball. Yes women's basketball has their group of bluebloods at the top just like men's basketbal does. But there are lot of very solid volleyball teams throughout the country. Also, I see the fact that the Valley has been consistently placing 3 teams (4 one year) in the NCAA Tournament in recent years also reflects favorably on the parity in women's volleyball.

In any case, I am sure I'm not going to change your opinion on this so we will just have to agree to disagree.

Now if you want to talk about lack of parity then women's college basketball is where it's at.

Really irritated I can't watch this match. About par for the course, but it would appear (again) I am not missing anything early.

19-12 and the Tigers are really handing it to us right now.
