    .

I believe USF's 5-set home losses were to Cincinnati and Tulane. The 5th sets scores in those 2 matches were 13-15 and 12-15 respectively. The 5th set scores in the 2 road losses at Temple and Memphis were 13-15 and 14-16. So it certainly points out the USF has been a close but no cigar type of team and is a team the Shocks cannot afford to take lightly despire the winningless record in conference play.

The Shockers current 7 match win streak started with the home sweep over USF following the Shockers near upset of UCF two days earlier. In that win Sophie Childs had perhaps her best match a Shocker hitting 10-2-18 = .444. However, Sophie has been replaced as a starter by Sophia Rohling in the last 2 matches. Sophia was very good against Tulsa but had a poor outing in the win at Temple. Continuing the win streak may come down to what we get from this right-side hitting position.

    SCOUTING SOUTH FLORIDA:
    • South Florida enters the weekend 6-15 overall and 0-10 in conference play. Four of the ten losses have come in five-set matches.
    • South Florida ranks last in the conference with a .159 hitting percentage, 13 points below the next closest team. No individual Bulls players rank in the top 20 of the conference in hitting percentage.
    • Freshman Marta Cvitkovic highlights a promising young core, ranking seventh in the conference with 3.17 kills per set.

Yes. I obviously quit reading after "Tul". Corrected in the original.

          Set One

Brylee, Lily, Kayce, Kailin, Natalie, MorganS, and Bryn are the starters.

The Shocks jump out to a very early 3-1 lead, but a 3-0 run by the Bulls makes the score 6-9.

The Shockers return the favor with a 4-0 run including two service aces by Bryn to make it 10-9.

Two attack errors and a kill by Brylee. 13-10 and a USF timeout.

16-11 with two service aces by Lily and the end of the 3-0 run. Another USF timeout. Natalie has four of the eight kills for the Shocks.

Sideouts until the Shocks have another 4-0 run to move the score to 22-14. Then three in a row for the Bulls. Timeout Shockers at 22-17.

          [Back from supper]

As indicated below, 25-18 in the first set.

          .387 v .219.

Sophie getting the call tonight ahead of Sophia. So far she is 0-0-2.

Solid 1st set for the Shocks. No attack errors and 4-1 advantage in aces.

Can't believe Lambo didn't challenge the tip cal of the 1st set point. Maybe USF doesn't have replay capability.

            Keep it going Shocks.

Looks like the Shocker XC teams are in attendance.

              Set Two

              Same starters.

4-4 moves to 10-5. TO USF.

Three more to 13-5. Brylee had a couple of service aces in the 7-0 run.

Then a 5-0 run by USF to bring the score back to 13-10. TO Shocks.

Sideouts and then a 3-0 mini-run to 18-12. USF takes their second timeout.

Back-to-back block solos by Brylee and then she has a kill. 22-13.

              25-15.

              For the match, .407 v .148.

Brylee and Natalie have seven kills and Kailin has six. Only three attack errors on 59 swings.

                  Set Three

Note: The arena for the USF Bulls is The Corral.

                  Starters are the same.

Three!! more service aces, these by Lily. 6-1 and USF take a TO.

Nine service errors for the Shocks, but ten aces at this point.

Sideouts and a couple of back-to-backs for USF and the score is 9-8.

Then a 5-0 run by the Shocks leads to the last TO by USF. 15-9 with two service aces by Kailin part of that.

20-12 and then a 3-0 run for USF. Shocker TO at 20-15.

21-18 and the last TO for the Shocks.

                  Stumblin' home. 25-21 and 3-0.

.329 v .174. Ten service errors and thirteen aces. Six blocks v three.

                  Brylee 10-2-21 for .381, Natalie 7-2-15 for .333, Kailin 7-3-18 for .222, and Sophie 4-0-14 for .286.

Seven attack errors on 85 swings.

USF close to 10-9. Shocks having trouble getting in system of late. Poor passing.

Shocks service game help tons in this match.

Pathetic effort by the Shocks in trying to close out Set 3. Serve receive and passing not good.

This level of play will work against USF. But we need to be in system at a much higher rate than we were tonight.

Certainly won't have a 13-4 advantage in service aces vs UCF.

Congrats to the team making it 8 in row. Not confident about extending that on Sunday but if the Shocks play well throughout it's not impssible. Tonight they won easily but there were too many poor stretches of play. Those have to go away.

SMU up 2-1 and 19-14 before a 4-1 Cincy run makes it 20-18.

Shocks now alone in 3rd place a half-game behind Houston.

Shocks face a huge challenge on Sunday but they also have a huge opportunity.

Shocks already running ahead of schedule. Can they take another step up. The main thing is no to take a step back.

From a knowledgeable commenter on VT-

The way things are going... there's going to be like 4 AAC teams who are close but just out of the tournament.
