Natalie got a bunch of swings in the middle - 18, which is a lot for the Shocks lately. Her kills per set on the season lead the middles.

Ohter Friday Scores in the AAC West

      Houston 3 - Memphis 2 in Houston (22), (25), 16, 23, 15

      SMU 3 - Tulsa 0 in Dallas

      AAC West Standings:
      Houston 7-0
      Tulane 4-3
      WSU 3-4
      SMU 3-4
      Memphis 2-5
      Tulsa 2-5

Houston looks like a lock to advance to the AAC Tournament since they swept both SMU and Tulane. Looks to me like the Shocks have to beat Tulane tomorrow than sweep Houston at the end of the month to make the AAC Tournament. Not an impossible task but not a very likely one.

        Match Two - Set One

One lineup tweak: Lily, Kayce, Sina, Natalie, Marriah, Sophia, Megan.

At 3-3, Brooke and Mckayla rotate in.

Four in a row gives the Shocks a 7-5 lead.

A kill by Mariah, her first swing of the set. And another, 10-7.

Four in a row by the Green Wave. A service ace and a bad set in there. 10-11.

        13-15 at the Media Timeout.

        13-12 is now 14-18. Overrule, 15-17.

Three in a row by Tulane including two attack errors. 16-20 and a Shocker timeout.

Another attack error before the bleeding stops. Still no kills from a middle.

Another overrule goes the Shocks' way. 19-22.

        A kill by Natalie. 20-23.

Long delay at 22-24. Another challenge? LiveStats glitch?

Hard to know exactly. Apparently, the score was 23-23 at one point. Last point was a service ace,

        23-25 Tulane

        .257 v .143 and still lost.

Brylee did not play in the 1st set. Injury or just not playing well? She did not have a good match yesterday.

            Set Two

Some changes. Emma in the lineup and Mckayla is the opening setter. Natalie, Marriah, and Megan still there.

2-4 and Sophia rotates in. - and Kayce in there somewhere.

From 2-5, a long string of sideouts until the Shocks get four in a row including two attack errors. 12-11.

At 13-12, Morgan is in. LS says 14-12 and also says Media Timeout. I suspect really a Tulane TO.

Who knows is really happening? 1972Shocker? Now 17-12 and a Green Wave TO.

Attack errors, a service ace by Morgan, kills by Natalie and Marriah, a block by Natalie and Sina - a little bit of everything.

Another kill by Marriah and another service ace by Morgan. 19-12 and another timeout.

20-15 and Bryn is in to serve.

19-12 and now 20-17. Where have we heard this song before?

Shockers ride out the storm. A kill by Megan ends the set.

            Shockers 25-18

            .253 v .150

Seven kills for Sophia, six for Marriah and Megan, and five for Sina. Megan at 6-1-14 for .357 lead the OHs.

Live state were off in that set until the 15 point auto timeout. Officials generally in a state of confusion early in set 2. Not sure I have seen a match where the officials get so much face and back time.

Not sure about this lineup with Sina getting 23 attacks. Sophia only has 12 attacks and the middles only have 12 attacks combined. Could be Tulane's defense is focused on forcing the ball to the undersized Sina.

The Shocks are giving very good effort as far as I can tell. Hopefully, the gained a bit of confidence with this 2nd set win. So far Tulane's hitting % is way down from yesterday.

Have you noticed how often the Tulane setter gets to her spot and then barely has to move to receive the pass and make her set. Pretty impressive.

                Set Three

                Same starters as Set Two.

6-2 and a Tulane TO. Kills by Sina and Sophia, two attack errors, block by Megan and Marriah, and kill by Emma, the first middle kill not by Natalie.

8-3. Kayce and Natalie rotate in.

                9-4 and Morgan rotates in.

Kill by Natalie, bad set, kill by Sophia, block by Sophia and Emma. 14-7 and another timeout by the Green wave.

16-10, 16-13, sideouts until 19-15. Bryn to serve. Kil by Sina and a bad set stretches the lead to 21-15.

Kill by Morgan, kill by Sina, her service ace, and kill by Emma are the last four Shocker points.

                Shockers 25-18

                .277 v .170

Sophia with ten kills, Sina and Marriah with eight, Megan with seven. Marriah with 8-1-21 for .333 leads the outsides.

                Five blocks v three.

                  Set Four

                  Same starters. Why not?

6-5 as Kayce and Natalie rotate in.

                  7-7, then 7-11. Timeout Shockers.

10-16, then 15-17 on four kills and a service ace. Timeout Tulane.

16-18 and Morgan makes her first appearance of the set.

16-20 and another timeout for the Shocks.

20-21 and Tulane takes their last TO.

                  Gets no closer.

                  22-25 Tulane.

.273 v .195 for the match. Marriah and Sophia each with twelve kills.

After hitting .358 for the match yesterday Tulane is only hitting .168 through 3 sets today. At least some of the credit for that has to go to the Shocks I would think.

Natalie and Emma are combined 9-0-14 = .643

The Shocks have 6 service aces to 2 for Tulane.

Not a lot of blocks so far but Shocks have 5 to only 3 for Tulane.

Sophia gets far fewer out of system balls compared to other pin hitters and middles even fewer. But that’s normal for the middles.

                          Set Five

Brooke starts in place of Natalie. Wants some blocking early in the matchups?

Emma rotates in very early on.

Service error, bad set. Ugh! 1-2.

Then we get the service error right back.

                          3-2, then 3-6. TO Shocks.

4-6. Kayce and Natalie rotate in.

Tough set for Megan. Attack error and blocked twice. 4-8.

                          6-9 and Bryn to serve.

A Tulane kill and two Shocker attack errors. 6-12 and the other Shocker TO.

7-14. Time delay suggests a challenge.

                          7-15 Tulane

                          Shockers 2-3 Tulane

                          .243 v .207

Marriah hit 13-3-33 for .303 and Sophia also had with thirteen kills. Sina had 10, Emma (9-2-11 for .636) and Megan had 9, and Natalie had 8.

                          Seven blocks v five.

Shocks apparently were running on empty in Set 5. After an early 3-3 tie the Shocks were really never in it. They kind of ran out gas in the back half of the 4th set yesterday as well.

No Brylee today. No Nicole in either match.

Mariah had one of her better matches as a Shocker. Emma and Natalie were pretty solid in the middle although not overly busy. Natalie only had 1 block which is apparently her weakness at this point.

Megan played pretty well through the first 4 sets. Had a tough 5 set with 3 of her 4 attack errors (not totally all on her) in the 5th set.

Tulane is a good volleyball team.
