Considering reclass to 2017. Seems like several of our "2018" offers may in fact be 2017.

Three-star forward Rodgerick Brown is considering reclassifying to the class of 2017, according to his head coach Terrence Scales.

Good article on Tyler Harris and Rodgerick Brown. Rodgerick is "strongly considering" reclassifying to 2017 because his age won't allow him to play high school basketball next season.

Kid is a freak. 6'7 with a 28 inch vertical according to UAA. If you look around on the other rosters, a vertical that high is rare for a high school kid. Probably could play either forward position. http://uaa.io/roster.aspx?rp_id=3501

I'm not doubting his game or skill, but I wouldn't put a 28" vertical in the "freak" category. His standing reach is 8'3". Add 2'4" for his vertical and his maximum reach (from a standing start) is 10'7". His hand length is right at 9", which means he's not getting his wrist to the height of the basket.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

            Quite the analysis right there

I was thinking the same thing. If you look at the verticals of the good NBA players, they're all in the mid 30's and some around 40.

Your looking at the numbers look right. However if you look at his video, Rog doesn't struggle to get above the rim. My guess is that the 28" is wrong or his reach is wrong or both. His video looks good.

Keep in mind that standing vert is different than max vert. Most basketball plays are made with some sort of running start, not from a pure standstill, so a player is likely to play higher above the rim than their standing vert number.

27-30 in. standing verticals are average for college basketball players (http://www.homeexerciseequipmenthq.c...vertical-jump/), and players should be able to increase their explosiveness from high school to college.

In case anyone is interested, Ron Baker had a 30 in. vertical at the combine and Melo Trimble has a 26.5 in. vertical (http://stats.nba.com/draft/combine-strength-agility/).

Okay, standing vertical makes sense. Regular vertical leaps, where you have time to gather, would be a lot higher.

It probably makes more sense to use the vertical where a player has time to gather, since that's more of a game time situation.

I guess you have to know whether it's a standing vertical or a "running" vertical? All I meant was that if you look around on the other rosters you'll be hard pressed to find a guy listed with a 30-some inch vertical. Let alone a 6'7 kid.

I'm 5'10" and on my best day, my vertical was about 20". I could almost touch the rim, as in 2 or 3 inches below.

He's 9" taller and his vertical leap is about 9" higher. That means even with my small hands he should be able to go about a foot and a half above the rim.

That's about 6" under the top of the backboard.

I think he'll be fine. This is one time I am going to disagree with you, Aargh.

                          J. J. Watt supposedly has a 60" vertical leap, but to do it, he has to squat and then jump to the top of a platform (it's called a box jump).

I am totally in agreement with your assessment. When you're standing perfectly still then jump and they mark it (to measure your vertical leap), J. J. sure as hell couldn't jump 61".

That means the actual numbers are MUCH lower.

Always understand there is a bunch of subjectivity in these measurements.

I did note in my post that it was a standing vert. that's pretty much what you get a lot of the time when you block shots.

My only point in the post that started this little tangent was that 28" doesn't fit the "freak" category. If Baker is at 30", that would pretty much make my point. Baker doesn't have the greatest ups. Cotton = freak. Baker = not a freak.
