  • I could be wrong, but if MM comes back, I would see the rotation for the 3 and 4 as being MM, and Rod Brown (Brown similar to Kelly) for both positions, and CJ at the 3 and hopefully he improves his handles enough to play the 2 a little. I would suspect that one of the bigger guys (Udeze or Poor Bear probably) would also be in the rotation for the 4 depending on their defense, and other skills.

So you're assuming that Chance Moore won't be able to contribute?

  • I'm guessing we see MM at the 4 a lot more just because we lack experience down low. Lots of opportunities across the board, however.

I’ve heard that Brown is a very good rebounder. The strength of Duff and Brown is that they can both play inside and out. In addition, on defense they can both switch on high picks.

  • I'd pencil RBrown into next year's starting lineup right now, although it's all speculation. I think 3 more can be known: Midtgaard, McDuffie, and Reaves. Past that it's a real crap shoot.

    • I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if any of our incoming freshman (redshirt or true) started by mid season next year. Most likely that reeves, jones, Brown and mcduffy all start at the beginning of the year however.

      • My guess:
        PG Lomax and Jones
        SG Reaves and Stephenson
        SF Moore, MM, RB, Reaves
        PF MM, Chandler, RB
C AM, Udeze, Chandler, and JE

Don't sell RB short. Maybe Chance Moore will become a super Frosh, and at this time is rated by some as a 4* recruit. However, when RodB was recruited, he was a #150 (a 4* by some ranking services) in 2018. From all reports I've had, he was doing well during practice prior to the redshirt decision, and also is doing well after the RS decision.

Gregg on one of his shows made the comments that Zach Brown is his defensive stopper and he's always had a defensive stopper. His defensive stopper by virtue of this important position, has always received a high number of minutes on the court (according to Gregg), and will continue to do so. Coaches are trying to prepare CJ for that role next year. He didn't give CJ the role, but pointed toward him having an opportunity to get it. I think that CJ and RB both fit into possibilities for that role. I think that Moore may play some 2 also, but while everyone gets a shot to play, Gregg puts a lot of stock into experience, and he will give them first opportunity. The EXPERIENCE factor is why I think that Reaves, Samajae, CJ, MM, AM, and Rod B will get first opportunities over the others on your list. The first player without experience who I think may beat this is Alex Lomax because his leadership skills, and PG readiness are so important and may beat the experience factor.

Chance Moore is a bigger version of Landry Shamet.

This post and following two comments sadly did not age well at all.

      • We're gonna have to use RodB or something as shorthand, cause I'm not sure I will ever not see Ron Baker when I read RB.

Agreed. We may need to retire initials like we do numbers.

                • This occurred to me when it happened, but I didn't post anything at the time.

RBrown's coach (and surrogate Dad) said, after RBrown signed, "we'll be at the game when WSU comes to town, we'll be loud, and we won't be cheering for Memphis". He was at the Memphis game. He was loud. He was escorted out of the arena by security. Now that's being LOUD!

Perhaps TOO LOUD! Obviously more than decibels were involved. Hopefully, that will prove to be a behavioural outlier.

Maybe he was just covering for Lynn. Taking one for the team, as it were.

                • Taylor Eldrigde with a report on Hot Rod.

Taylor is really dong a very nice job. Seems like Taylor loves his new gig.

At 6-foot-6, Brown is the prototypical small forward on a Marshall team. He arrived at WSU weighing 190 pounds. After working out with strength and conditioning coach Kerry Rosenboom, Brown reports he has gained 25 pounds.
Sounds to me like the decision to redshirt Rod was a very good one.

So I just had to go back and revisit Mr. Brown here, knowing his redshirt Season will be invaluable with all the new faces. His motor, dedicated work ethic, strength, speed, and rebounding ability should allow this sky high jumper to play the 3 or 4 IMO. While R. Brown was recruited in here last Season, he may be a starter at the 3 and a key to our Tenacious 10 new recruits when it is all said and done. As excited as I am about an ace incoming recruiting class as it soon will be finalized, R. Brown could very well be a huge asset to our fresh squad of so many new faces helping MM to help lead this quest.

You are right about the double/double machine from Memphis basketball. This guy is a warrior.

                  • Rod is transferring to Pearl River CC. Former stomping grounds of Darral Willis.
