WSU is not an attractive destination for guards for a couple of years. Unless that guard wants to study for a year or two and then go to the NBA.

Baker, VanVleet, and Shamet have set a pretty solid record of unheralded guards out of HS going to the league after playing at WSU.

Maybe academics? I don't know many details on Berry, but Northwestern is well regarded academically, so maybe that's a factor.
