  • Joey Parker

WSU, in its far-ranging search for backcourt help, is looking at Southwestern Illinois College sophomore Joey Parker. Coach Jay Harrington says no visit has been set, and he believes the Shockers are choosing from among three guards. Where Parker fits, he is not sure.

He is sure Parker (6-foot-1, 195 pounds) is a player. He is a two-time all-region pick who averaged 9.1 points and 9.5 assists, which is second nationally (and which seems to indicate favorable stat-keepers at home). Parker shoots 47 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from three. Harrington calls him an average shooter.

Good article on Parker. I believe he ended up as the NJCAA assist leader. Parker was a shooting guard in high school at Centralia and Carbondale in Illinois. He transfered to division II Missouri Western last summer but came back to Southwestern Illinois before the start of the school year. Early in the year, Iowa State, Old Dominion and Northern Illinois had already shown interest.
