I think the kid has the talent and physical gifts to be great if he "gets it" and is willing to put in the work both on the floor and off.

Well, if Marshall and his staff didn't think he could learn defense, they presumably wouldn't have recruited him.

That's one good thing about playing defense on the court -- it's much more about effort and focus and thus easier to learn than hitting a quality breaking pitch, which is something that some superior athletes and otherwise very good ballplayers just never can do.

BBIQ is reportedly very high and his motor seems to run full throttle. If he's coachable, no reason to think not, defense should not be an issue.
