In most schemes is there much difference between a 2 and a 3 on offense?

In some yes. Others no. I'd say Ellis is a SF that could play some SG. Like I said in another thread somewhere, he's more likely to play SG than PF.

In that same interview Cooz also said Ellis was a wing. I think he misspoke when he said "2".

If this is true, then HCGM is running a 3 guard set or WSU now has the biggest SG in the MVC.

I think the order of our wish list is a 5, a 5/4, and a four year 1. That being said, Payne has been listed as a 2nd team pre-season All-American by NJCAA, Sporting News pre-season juco player of the year, and he plays for the pre-season #3 nationally ranked team (for whatever pre-season picks are worth). We should go after the best players (and quality individuals) we can get, but I think our logjam at the 3 is as much, or more, a deterent for Payne as it is for WSU. Based on our limited knowledge of our new players and future status of any of the players, I don't believe this recruitment is likely to happen.

First let me say that we definitly need a couple of good (big) 4 -5 guys and it sounds like we are hot on the trail of a couple.

Isn't AJ a 2 -3 type guy ? How are we "stacked" with 3's? I don't have time to list all of the current players and recruits, but several of them can play multiple positions.

To have balance on a team you would want the following spread out over 4 years:

Min / Max
PG: 2/4
SG: 2/4
SF: 2/4
4-5 : 4/5

Some of those should be combo guys so you can easily get to the max scholly limit. Ideally, you want to graduate 3 per year to keep the balance in the system. What you see though is that the teams that are really strong may have 4 or 5 seniors and fill in the gaps with juco guys to consistantly turn over 4 or 5 seniors. Not saying that's the way we should do it but when Sampson was at OU, that was pretty much his philosophy (along with thousands of recruiting phone calls) and OU was pretty stout year in and year out.

I watched a little of the Pitt State game last nite and the team that they were playing (can't remember who...) started three point guards and I think that they are rated in the top five.

If this guy is a stud (the second coming of Michael Jordan or Xman), we need to get him and let the chips (playing time) fall where they may. If he is equal to what we already have....keep looking

If you look at the top programs, alot of kids ride pine for at least 2 years while developing. Some ride all four years that are really good players and would be starters at most other schools. To get to the top, we're going to have to get to that point.

Filling in with good Juco's is okay, but if you crowd your bench with them, then you only get 1 good year out of them, considering the 1st year is kind of a learning curve for a new system.

I think Clemente and Gris will be very good players for us, but think we lose them.

He had a real nice game against Butler County last Saturday.
24 pts. (FG 9/11, 3Pt 4/6, FT 2/2), 8 rebounds in 31 minutes.

Another player at Coffeyville to watch is FR Lenny Daniel 6'7" PF.
He had 19 pts. (FG 7/11, FT 5/7), 9 rebounds, and 1 block in 24 minutes.

Remember that Ryan Martin is one of Payne's assistant coaches this year. According to Ryan, Arkansas, Illinois and WSU are battling it out for Payne. Ryan believes Payne will not sign until the Spring.

I have seen Payne play, and he could fit in at the two, but is a natural 3. If he wants to come here i'm sure we could find a spot for him. I saw him play last year when scouting Eberhart for CCCC. I havn't been that impressed for quite a while.
