One possibility might be for Ellis to move to the 4 spot. Does anyone think that is realistic?

I had thought of that as well. He certainly has the height and length, but is pretty thin.

I don't. I could see him getting very limited minutes at the 4, but strikes me much more as a 3. Even if he gains weight, I don't see him as an inside force.

As for Butler and Clemente being candidates for the 3, I would say no way. Butler has no outside game that I have seen thus far and Ramon is far more valuable inside.

Butler could eventually get some time at three depending upon his development. Right now we'd have Aaron and Mantas there for the next two years. I'd look to get a SF in '09. And we all know who's at the top of that wish list!

He's apparently a talent. So it doesn't hurt to keep in touch with him in case something happens I guess. I'm just saying if it were my decision, I'd be looking elsewhere for the 3rd 'ship.

Because it appears AB is not the player HCGM thought he would be when he kept him on.

AB shouldn't really play a factor in that in my mind.

Shocker22 nailed it. We are recruiting him because the guy is a stud and would be a difference maker. Room is usually found for such a player.

Payne does have good ball handling skills however. Igt might be weird but he could play some 2 as he has a nice stroke from 3.
Ramon is no 3 and AB has not proven to be one either.
If you go with a big lineup RC could play a 3 and Butler still has another year and might be able to hold his own at the three.

In D-1 basketball, you bring in the absolute best players that you possibly can and let them compete for playing time. If DP is better than AB or even RC, he will play. You shouldn't "not recruit" because of a potential logjam.

Although I commend AB for his hard work, he still hasn't shown anything on the court. Hopefully he will continue to work hard on the court and in the classroom.

Dear HCGM, Please recruit the best that you can get. I really appreciate the fact that you are reaching for the stars. I love seeing our name up with the big boys. There is an old saying (really old) "you have not because you ask not" . Keep asking...they will come.

Anybody remember the Illinois team that won the NC under Lou Henson? Not a starter over 6'7". Also not a starter under 6'5". Recruiting a team full of 6 footers would be a really bad idea, but I have no problem whatsoever with having the vast majority of the team being athletic mid-sized guys, as long as a couple of them are able to guard the post. It also makes for very exciting basketball to watch.

I think MoShock hit it on the head. You have to recruit the best possible players you can get. If that means that a current player gets upset and leaves because you got someone better at their position, then so be it. If they can't take a little bit of competition, then they don't need to be here anyways.

All you have to do is think Charles Barkley! You dont have to be tall, to be dominating! Although it helps! 8) :wsu_posters:
